The gaming industry has captivated audiences worldwide, from casual players to competitive e-sports teams. In Australia, game development studios have been seeing substantial recent growth in both revenue and employment, according to the results of a survey done by the Interactive Games & Entertainment Association. The list below covers Sydney companies that are helping lead the Australian gaming sector.

Top Gaming Companies in Sydney

Immutable is a blockchain technology company that develops games, NFTs and Web3 assets. Its gaming division offers a catalogue of Web3 games that are built on the Ethereum blockchain. The portfolio includes classic titles like Chess Universe and others that feature complex world building, such as the Badmad Robots multiplayer shooter game.

 

SMG Studio develops games for mobile and PC as well as players using consoles like Nintendo Switch. Its portfolio includes titles such as Death Squared, No Way Home, Thumb Drift, OTTTD and Super One More Jump. SMG Studio has team members working across Sydney, Melbourne and Los Angeles.

 

Independent game developer and publisher Blowfish Studios offers expertise across areas including concept planning, sound design, motion capture and quality testing. The Sydney-based team says it emphasizes technical and artistic excellence, working on titles like To The Stars and Forest Grove.

 

Tech giant Meta is best known for building social media platforms that grow into cultural institutions, such as Instagram and Facebook. Its expanded into development of the “social metaverse,” which is a virtual and mixed reality universe where users interact and transact with each other while represented by digital avatars. Gaming company Aristocrat makes content and technology products that span various gaming industry niches. It offers physical casino games that are built, delivered and installed onsite for live play, as well as digital games that use real-world currencies and online games where players can engage over casino-style experiences.

 

Since its 2005 founding, 2K has established a diverse portfolio of games that are available for players on multiple platforms and consoles. Its offerings range from sports-themed series NBA 2K and WWE 2K to first-person shooter game BioShock. The team at 2K includes engineers and creatives as well as marketers and data experts.

 

Riot Games is responsible for producing League of Legends and other popular titles that are played around the world. The company maintains over 20 global offices, including a Sydney studio that opened in 2022 and offers jobs for software engineers, QA engineers and other technical experts.
