Quantum computing company Q-CTRL is receiving $3.2 million in funding through a government initiative aimed at supporting development of technology with defense applications.

The Advanced Strategic Capabilities Accelerator’s Emerging and Disruptive Technologies program received 179 proposals and opted to award 21 contracts totaling more than $60 million collectively, according to a news release

Founded in 2017, Q-CTRL seeks to develop infrastructure software that enables a variety of quantum technology use cases. The Sydney-based company plans to use its new funding to accelerate work on quantum sensing solutions.

“Q-CTRL is developing a revolutionary new form of quantum gravimetry to provide more information about the Earth’s local gravity than any alternate approaches. Realizing this goal will deliver a new way to see hidden targets underground and further will support the development of new forms of navigation when GPS is unavailable or untrusted,” the company wrote in a LinkedIn post announcing the funding award.
