With successful global installations, Chrysos is taking PhotonAssay™ to customers around the world – Chrysos could take you to places that you might not have even imagined yet. There’s opportunity around every corner and the support to help you achieve your goals.

About the role:

The Financial Accountant - APAC is responsible for accurate and timely accounting across APAC entities, with primary ownership of assigned month-end close activities, journals, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets, leases, R&D accounting, tax support and related reporting. The role applies IFRS and AASB requirements to practical transactions, reviews customer and supplier contracts for relevant accounting implications, maintains strong financial controls, and supports reliable regional and Group reporting. The role also provides short-term backup for the Accounts Officer when required.

What you will do:

  • Own assigned APAC month-end close activities and complete them accurately within the agreed close timetable.
  • Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journals, including accruals, prepayments, payroll, capitalisation, depreciation, amortisation and other adjustments.
  • Own and maintain bank, balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations for APAC entities. Ensure reconciliations are complete, appropriately supported, clearly explain balances and reconciling items, and include documented actions for outstanding matters.
  • Maintain financial fixed asset, work-in-progress and lease accounting records for APAC entities, including asset build-ups, componentisation, capitalisation, depreciation, transfers and disposals.
  • Maintain the fixed asset tax register and supporting tax-depreciation schedules for entities within the Australian tax group.
  • Prepare BAS/GST returns and related reconciliations for assigned APAC entities, including new jurisdictions as the business expands, for review and approval by the Financial Controller - APAC or relevant tax owner.
  • Prepare reconciliations and supporting schedules for income-tax compliance across the Australian tax group and other APAC entities, including prepayments, interest, right-of-use assets, leases and fixed assets.
  • Review customer and supplier contracts, identify relevant accounting, billing, cost-classification and capitalisation implications, and escalate complex or unusual matters appropriately.
  • Own the monthly R&D accounting process, including preparing journals based on approved timesheets to capitalise eligible R&D employee costs and directly attributable overheads in accordance with the company's accounting policies and applicable accounting standards.
  • Work with external R&D advisers and internal stakeholders to assess the appropriate accounting treatment of R&D activities, including capitalisation, useful lives, amortisation and supporting documentation for intangible assets.
  • Support APAC and Group month-end, quarter-end, half-year and year-end reporting and audit processes by delivering accurate, complete and audit-ready accounting records and supporting schedules.
  • Support the Group Accountant with local processing and investigation of intercompany asset transfers and other cross-border balances. Maintain APAC local-book reconciliations, while Group Finance retains ownership of Group intercompany accounting and eliminations.
  • Work with finance and operational stakeholders to understand transactions, resolve accounting issues at source and improve data quality.
  • Support annual budgeting and monthly reforecasting by providing accurate actuals, accounting insight and supporting schedules.
  • Maintain clear procedures, reconciliations and handover documentation to support team coverage and continuity.
  • Identify and participate in continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen controls, simplify processes and improve efficiency.
  • Identify and promptly escalate significant, unusual or judgemental transactions, control issues, reporting risks and delays, with practical recommendations for resolution.

Who you are:

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
  • CA, CPA or equivalent qualification, or active progress toward qualification.
  • Approximately two to five years of relevant accounting experience in a commercial, corporate or public-practice environment.
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience preparing journals, performing balance sheet reconciliations and contributing to month-end close.
  • Sound working knowledge of IFRS and AASB, with the ability and willingness to research and apply accounting requirements with appropriate guidance.
  • Ability to review customer and supplier contracts, identify relevant accounting and billing terms, and escalate complex or unusual matters appropriately.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including investigating variances and resolving accounting issues independently.
  • Demonstrated experience maintaining fixed asset records, including capitalisation, depreciation, transfers, disposals and reconciliations.
  • Practical experience preparing BAS/GST returns and related reconciliations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience using an ERP or accounting system.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • High attention to detail, sound judgement, integrity and commitment to accurate financial records.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
  • Openness to learning and responsibly using new technologies, including AI-enabled tools, to improve accuracy and efficiency, while retaining appropriate review, professional judgement and accountability.
  • Willingness and ability to provide short-term AP/AR backup when required.

 Desirable

  • Exposure to intercompany transactions, cross-border accounting, transfer-pricing processes or multi-entity environments.
  • Experience with leases, capital projects, tax-support schedules or payroll journals.
  • Exposure to R&D accounting, including capitalisation and amortisation of development costs or intangible assets.
  • Experience with NetSuite, Workday Adaptive or similar systems.
