We’re looking for an AI Engineer to join our team, working across the full AI and machine learning solution lifecycle from problem definition and design through to build, deployment, and optimisation.

This is more than a technical delivery role. We’re looking for someone who can combine strong engineering capability with sound judgement, commercial awareness, and a modern advisory mindset. Someone who can work closely with clients, understand real business challenges, and translate them into effective AI and ML solutions that are scalable, governed, and built for the real world.

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you’ll work with clients and internal teams to design, build, and deliver AI and machine learning solutions across a range of use cases and environments.

Your role:

• Design, build, test, and deploy AI and ML solutions across the full lifecycle, from proof of concept through to production implementation
• Apply modern AI/ML engineering practices, including data preparation, feature engineering, model and prompt development, deployment, monitoring, and optimisation
• Translate business problems into practical AI and ML solutions, working directly with client data, technology, and business stakeholders
• Embed responsible AI and governance controls into solution design and delivery, aligned to client risk, compliance, and ethical requirements
• Contribute technical credibility to conversations around AI strategy, architecture, and governance
• Support proposals, scoping, and capability assessments as part of business development activities
• Develop reusable artefacts, patterns, and documentation to enable consistent and scalable delivery across engagements
• Share knowledge and help uplift AI capability across the broader Altis team
• Contribute to Altis AI intellectual property, thought leadership, and external market positioning as opportunities arise
  

What we’re looking for

We’re looking for someone who brings strong technical depth, end-to-end delivery experience, and the ability to work confidently with clients in complex environments.

What you ideally bring:

• 5+ years’ experience designing and delivering solutions in a commercial or consulting environment
• Proven experience taking AI/ML solutions end-to-end, from problem definition and proof of concept through to production deployment and ongoing optimisation
• The ability to assess a client problem and recommend the right approach, whether that is traditional machine learning, generative AI, or a combination of both
• Experience working directly with clients and engaging with senior business and technology stakeholders
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in clear, practical business language
• A strong understanding of responsible AI, including governance, risk, ethical considerations, and challenges such as hallucination, bias, and data privacy
  

Technical capability

You’ll bring strong hands-on capability across modern AI engineering practices and tooling, including:

• Strong Python skills
• Experience with data preparation, feature engineering, model development, and evaluation
• Practical experience building LLM-powered solutions, including prompt engineering, retrieval augmented generation (RAG), vector databases, and agentic patterns such as tool use and multi-step reasoning
• Familiarity with LLM APIs and orchestration frameworks, including context management, token economics, and cost optimisation
• Experience with MLOps practices, including experiment tracking, model deployment, and performance monitoring in production
• Familiarity with REST API design and integration patterns to connect AI solutions with client systems
• Experience with AWS and/or GCP, containerisation, and CI/CD pipelines
• Exposure to large-scale data processing, streaming, and workflow orchestration tools
  

Additional requirements

• Regular domestic travel will be required to support client delivery and business development
