About this roleThis role provides critical support to the AMLCO in maintaining and enhancing the effectiveness of the AML/CTF program across Australia and New Zealand. The position focuses on quality assurance, compliance support, case review, and documentation creation and uplift, with a strong emphasis on regulatory readiness and continuous improvement.
The successful candidate will play a key role in audit preparation, strengthening controls, and supporting Line 1 in the consistent application of AML/CTF obligations across both jurisdictions.
Further responsibilities include:
Quality Assurance (QA)
- Conduct QA reviews across AML processes and outputs
- Ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with regulatory expectations
- Provide feedback and partner with Line 1 to design and deliver training to support capability uplift
Compliance Support
- Provide guidance to Line 1 on AML/CTF processes and policies
- Collate and analyse queries to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Support the development of scalable solutions (e.g. AI-enabled tools)
- Respond to AML/CTF-related incidents and support Line 1 on handling and resolution
ECDD & Escalations
- Review Enhanced Customer Due Diligence (ECDD) cases and escalations
- Support risk-based, timely decision-making
Suspicious Matter Reporting
- Assist in drafting Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs) and Grounds for Suspicion (GFS)
- Support the AMLCO in forming suspicion and meeting reporting obligations
Policy, SOP & Framework Uplift
- Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Identify gaps and ensure alignment with AML/CTF program requirements
- Provide support to Legal and Compliance on broader policy updates, and assist with embedding these changes across the business.
Controls & Implementation
- Contribute to control design and enhancement discussions
- Assist in scoping regulatory requirements and implementation plans
- Support operationalisation of controls within Line 1
Document Control
- Ensure documents are current, consistent, and centrally managed
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Assist with AML reporting and metrics
- Identify and implement process improvements and efficiencies
- 3-5 years experience in AML/CTF, financial crime, risk, or compliance roles
- Strong understanding of AML/CTF regulatory requirements (e.g. AUSTRAC obligations preferred)
- Understanding of New Zealand AML/CFT obligations preferred but not essential
- Experience in QA, case review, or audit support highly regarded
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent written communication, particularly in drafting reports (e.g. SMRs)
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills
