About this roleAs the AML Team Lead, you will be responsible for managing and guiding a team of analysts within the Transaction Monitoring and AML Operations function. Your focus will be on ensuring effective detection, investigation, and reporting of suspicious activity in alignment with regulatory requirements, internal policies, and service level agreements (SLAs). You will oversee day-to-day operations, drive process optimisation across transaction monitoring and onboarding workflows, and foster a culture of compliance, quality, and operational excellence. This role plays a critical part in protecting the business from financial crime by delivering high-quality outcomes efficiently and ensuring strong governance is embedded across all AML-related activities. In this role you will:
- Supervise, mentor, and support a team of AML analysts conducting transaction monitoring, alert reviews, and investigations.
- Manage and maintain the transaction monitoring system, including the design, testing, implementation, and ongoing review of rule performance to ensure effectiveness and compliance
- Monitor team performance and workflows, ensuring KPIs and SLAs are consistently met.
- Act as a subject matter expert on AML/CTF matters, providing guidance and support on complex investigations.
- Ensure timely escalation of suspicious activity and contribute to the preparation and quality assurance of Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs).
- Capture and document due diligence, findings, and decision rationale in relevant alert and case management systems.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, including Compliance, Legal, Risk, and business units to escalate and resolve high-risk cases.
- Ensure all investigative activities comply with applicable AML laws, regulations, and internal compliance frameworks.
- Contribute to process improvement initiatives, system enhancements, and the development of policies and procedures.
- 5 years of experience in transaction monitoring, financial crimes, or compliance roles, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team lead capacity.
- In-depth understanding of AML regulations, transaction monitoring systems, and financial crime prevention frameworks.
- Experience with regulatory reporting (e.g., SMR filings) and investigations related to suspicious activity, strongly preferred.
- Certification in Anti-Money Laundering (CAMS), Certified Financial Crime Specialist (CFCS), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of Customer Identification: Know Your Customer (KYC & KYB), preferred
- Well-developed judgment and investigative skills, able to use resources at your disposal to produce effective results.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present findings to senior management and regulators.
- Strong leadership, team management, and interpersonal skills
