Our Challenger Investment Management (CIM) Fixed Income team manages over $17 billion in funds for CLC and institutional clients globally. With expertise in both private and public credit markets, we lead as originators and asset managers across diverse asset classes.
About the role
As a Credit Analyst, reporting to the Director of Credit, you'll conduct independent research, assessment, analysis and reporting on:

Private and public debt investments within CIM's fixed income portfolio.

Counterparty risk across Challenger’s business lines.
You'll play a key role in assessing and managing credit risk across a diverse portfolio, working closely with investment teams to conduct due diligence, financial modelling, and risk analysis.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct financial modelling and due diligence on investment opportunities, assessing business, industry, management, and transaction structure.

Evaluate counterparties and assign credit ratings based on financial statements, industry insights, and qualitative factors.

Monitor and report on CIM's fixed income portfolio, focusing on private credit in corporate, real estate, and mezzanine securitisation sectors.

Prepare analysis and present findings to Investment Committees.

Identify, analyse, and communicate risks and mitigants to stakeholders.

Support ad-hoc projects across Challenger's broader business.
Skills and Experience
You’ll bring 1 to 4 years of experience in areas such as institutional or corporate/commercial banking, transaction services, credit risk management, or working with rating agencies.
You’ll be highly driven with a genuine passion for debt, investment, private credit, and related areas. You take pride in upholding high standards and are recognised for your accountability and ownership of your work. At the same time, you thrive in a collaborative, collegial environment, working together to deliver the best outcomes for the business.
As well as;

Knowledge of and interest in local and international credit markets across various industries.

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Great Analytical skills, with a critical thinking mindset

Well organised, able to multi-task and balance competing demands

Intermediate Excel skills

Tertiary qualifications preferably in Commerce, Finance, Business or Accounting
Highly desirable but not essential

Experience in leveraged finance, institutional lending, private real estate debt, restructuring, or securitisation/ABS markets is a plus
