About the team and role 

The Investment Product team manages Challenger Life’s retail and institutional products, including fixed and lifetime annuities, life insurance contracts, reinsurance arrangements and investment products. 

The team is involved in the development of new products, the structuring of product features, and the development of pricing and risk models to ensure Challenger’s risk and return requirements are met. 

The team are looking to hire an Analyst to work alongside a team of specialised pricing actuaries and financial markets practitioners, providing financial modelling, pricing and transaction modelling support. 

In this role, the Analyst will be responsible for the ownership, development and operation of key models that are run weekly, as well as models used for transaction and projection-related tasks. These models are critical to team delivery, producing weekly product rates and supporting the economic analysis required for transaction structuring and approval. 

Key models include: 

  • Retail and institutional pricing models 

  • Reinsurance pricing models 

  • Annuity pricing models for ad-hoc quotations 

Transaction modelling support will vary by product and transaction and will span all aspects of product economics, including: 

  • Calculation of profitability, capital and risk metrics 

  • Scenario and stress testing 

  • Cleansing and analysis of data 

The Analyst will also be responsible for implementing Challenger’s model risk policy and overseeing the team’s compliance with these requirements, including model documentation and testing. 

About the candidate 

The ideal candidate will be highly numerate with strong financial modelling capabilities. They will have a strong analytical background, enjoy problem-solving, and demonstrate a high level of attention to detail. 

Clear communication skills and a collaborative working style are essential. 

Ideally, candidates will have financial modelling experience within the financial services sector and familiarity with insurance and banking products. 

Qualifications, experience and technical skills 

  • Strong academic track-record in quantitative disciplines such as Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Actuarial Studies, Finance/Economics etc.   

  • 3–5 years’ experience in financial modelling or analytics 

  • Advanced Excel modelling skills are essential 

  • Familiarity with analytical tools such as Python and SQL would be advantageous
