Job Description

We are seeking an experienced API / GCP Platform Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will sit at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, API management, and modern developer platforms.

You will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining robust platform foundations on Google Cloud Platform (GCP) while enabling seamless, secure API connectivity across enterprise systems. This position is ideal for an engineer who excels at bridging infrastructure automation with developer experience—ensuring our cloud environments are secure, scalable, and easy for application teams to build upon.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • GCP Platform Engineering: Design, build, and maintain core landing zones, infrastructure, and platform services within Google Cloud Platform using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).

  • API Gateway & Governance: Implement and manage enterprise API gateways, routing patterns, and security policies (e.g., Apigee, GCP API Gateway) to enable secure integration across microservices and external systems.

  • Automation & CI/CD: Architect and manage robust CI/CD deployment pipelines, automated testing, and release workflows for both platform infrastructure and API proxies.

  • Developer Enablement: Create clear patterns, service templates, and "as-a-service" capabilities that simplify cloud adoption for software engineering teams.

  • Security & Observability: Implement end-to-end monitoring, logging, and security controls across GCP environments and API layers, ensuring alignment with enterprise governance and compliance frameworks.

  • Performance Optimization: Diagnose root causes of complex system bottlenecks, optimize API latency, and ensure high availability across multi-region cloud environments.

Qualifications

Core Requirements:

  • GCP Expertise: Proven experience engineering and managing enterprise-grade environments within Google Cloud Platform (GCP) (e.g., GKE, IAM, VPCs, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub).

  • API Management: Hands-on experience configuring and maintaining API gateways and management tools (preferably Apigee or native GCP API Gateway).

  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Deep proficiency with modern IaC tools, specifically Terraform, to build and manage cloud infrastructure.

  • Automation & CI/CD: Strong experience building automated build/release pipelines using tools like GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Cloud Build.

  • Modern Networking & Security: Solid foundation in cloud networking (DNS, load balancers, service mesh, TLS, OAuth2, OIDC, and API security baselines).

  • Scripting & Languages: Proficiency in languages commonly used for cloud automation and API middleware (e.g., Python, Go, Node.js, or Bash).

Highly Regarded:

  • Official GCP Certifications (e.g., Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect or Professional DevOps Engineer).

  • Experience with container orchestration (Kubernetes / GKE) and service mesh architectures (Istio/Anthos).
