Just like the world around us, business is evolving, through innovative thinking, integrated solutions and the capability of talented people. Our team partners with clients to understand their business needs, stay actively involved in the markets and communities we work in, and deliver on our purpose to make everyday better.

We know our people are our greatest asset. They are what set us apart and why our clients keep coming back. We are passionate about what we do and proud of the culture we have built, one grounded in teamwork, collaboration and care across our team and the wider Beca Group.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a proactive and curious Assistant Project Manager to join our growing Sydney team. This is an opportunity for someone with an engineering background who is ready to build their career in professional project management, working alongside industry-leading project managers who will support, challenge and mentor them as they develop.

In this role, you will work directly with clients and project teams to help deliver a variety of exciting projects across one or more of our key markets, including Energy, Defence and Water. You will be exposed to a broad range of engineering and professional services disciplines, giving you the opportunity to grow your technical understanding while developing practical project management capability.

We are seeking someone who is a genuine self-starter: organised, adaptable and eager to learn. You will bring energy, initiative and a willingness to get involved, with the confidence to ask questions, build relationships and progressively take on more responsibility as your experience grows.

This role will give you exposure across the project life cycle, from business case development through to design, construction and operations. You will contribute to high-quality project delivery, support client communication and be part of a team that is focused on making a positive impact for our clients and communities.

You will be surrounded by experienced project managers and sector specialists who are recognised for the quality of their work. Through hands-on project experience, mentoring and exposure to different markets, you will be supported to build a rewarding long-term career in professional project management at Beca.

What we’ll like about you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • An engineering qualification and an interest in building a career in professional project management.

  • Some exposure to project delivery, coordination or project management, ideally within Energy, Defence, Water or another infrastructure-related sector.

  • A developing understanding of project management principles and a strong desire to keep learning.

  • A proactive, organised and adaptable approach, with the confidence to ask questions and make things happen.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with clients, project teams and colleagues.

  • A collaborative mindset and a willingness to work with experienced project managers, technical specialists and client teams.

Most importantly, you will bring a positive, tenacious attitude, a willingness to learn and a strong alignment with our purpose to make everyday better.

A career with Beca will provide you with:

  • Flexibility and wellbeing: We recognise that work-life balance is unique to everyone. Enjoy flexible working options to manage your personal and family priorities, along with dedicated leave for wellbeing and community engagement.

  • Belonging and ownership: Join a diverse and inclusive team where collaboration and creativity thrive. Bring your whole self to work and explore shareholder opportunities that allow you to share in our collective success.

  • Parental leave: Take time for what matters most with up to 14 weeks of fully paid parental leave, inclusive of all genders.

  • Career growth and development: Your growth is our priority. Benefit from continuous learning through our training programmes and support for professional accreditation, including pathways to Chartership with Engineers Australia. Work alongside industry leaders and gain hands-on experience to build your career confidence and capability.
