Position Overview

The Associate/Senior Associate of StepStone Group Real Assets LP (“SIRA”) in Sydney will be responsible for providing analytical, modeling, research and other associated support to SIRA’s local and international team in supporting clients with investments in infrastructure and associated real asset sectors globally. The role spans the full investment lifecycle, working closely with senior investment professionals, spanning due diligence, transaction execution and client engagement.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Support and/or materially contribute to (and increasingly lead) aspects of research regarding, and diligence of, potential investment opportunities and sectors, including primary funds, secondaries, co-investments and direct investments
  • Perform, oversee and review financial modelling and analytical tasks – create and/or modify financial models, analyze financial statements and financial forecasts, prepare valuation bridges, run discounted cash flow analysis, comparable public companies, and create sensitivity / scenario analysis;
  • Strong memo / presentation writing, including both preparation and review skills;
  • Ability to construct an argument around investment decisions and effectively communicate that argument both verbally and in written materials; be able to defend your position in a team environment, including in Investment Committee meetings;
  • Contribute to infrastructure manager coverage through relationship development, market monitoring, and sector/sub-sector research;
  • An ability to build and support relationships with investment partners/GPs and contribute to client engagement;
  • Interact with, and support, team members in delivering on client mandates and materials as required, including overseeing and training analysts; and
  • Strong client interaction skills – ability to interact with clients and prepare advisory materials as required
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
  • 4 to 7 years of experience at an investment bank, project finance firm, professional services firm, investment manager, Limited Partner, or in associated fields. Preferably with (at least in recent years) a focus on infrastructure investments
  • A Bachelor’s degree or MBA (or higher) ideally in a related field such as Business, Finance, Engineering or Economics
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and/or materially contribute to discrete aspects of investment origination, execution and asset management activities and experience in underwriting, and project managing, primary fund / manager, co-investment or secondary due diligence
  • Ability to undertake critical research and evaluation of potential investment opportunities and sub-sectors including the ability to gain a deep understanding of the key business value drivers, risk factors, and other underwriting considerations for infrastructure investments
  • Acute attention to accuracy and detail
  • Effective communication skills and strong problem-solving skills
  • Client management experience
  • Ability to prioritize activities while working on multiple projects and achieve target deadlines
  • Knowledge of the infrastructure market, and knowledge of and/or relationships with infrastructure managers preferable
  • High degree of proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel, including the ability to prepare and review complex financial models
