About the role

Join our Data & AI practice as an AWS Engineer, delivering high-impact, client-facing data transformation initiatives across industries.

As an AWS Engineer you will be responsible for designing, developing, and managing data and AI solutions on the AWS cloud platform. You will be responsible for creating data pipelines, managing ETL/ELT processes, optimising data storage and retrieval, designing scalable data architectures, and integrating generative AI capabilities using Amazon Bedrock. You'll have the opportunity to leverage the latest tools to enable our clients with modern, AI-ready Data Platforms.

What good looks like at 12 months
  • Has independently delivered end-to-end pipeline and data product work on a live AWS engagement
  • Has contributed to at least one Amazon Bedrock integration running in a production environment
  • Is consistently producing well-optimised, production-grade code that passes review without significant rework
  • Has developed solid working knowledge across AWS core data engineering services including Redshift, Glue, and Lake Formation
A typical week
  • 65% hands-on AWS development: pipeline builds, data modelling, ETL/ELT work, and performance optimisation
  • 20% collaboration and design: working with architects and senior engineers on solution design and delivery planning
  • 10% AI integration work: Amazon Bedrock integration into data pipelines and applications
  • 5% code reviews, testing, and documentation
Key responsibilities
  • Designing and building data products on AWS using services such as Amazon S3, Redshift, Glue, Lake Formation, and Athena
  • Data pipeline development using AWS Glue, Apache Airflow (Amazon MWAA), AWS Step Functions, and Kinesis Data Streams/Firehose
  • Data modelling and mapping aligned to business requirements and cloud-native best practices
  • Integration of Amazon Bedrock capabilities into data and AI solutions, including RAG pipelines, foundation model APIs, and Bedrock Agents
  • Leveraging dbt for transformation and data quality on AWS
  • Performance optimisation of AWS data services including Redshift query tuning, S3 partitioning strategies, and Glue job optimisation
  • Programming and data modelling using Python, SQL, and AWS SDKs (Boto3)
Key skills
  • Highly proficient in SQL for writing complex queries to extract, manipulate, and analyse data from AWS data services such as Amazon Redshift and Athena
  • Proficiency in Python for data engineering, automation, and integration with AWS services via Boto3; Java or Scala experience is a plus
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Bedrock, including invoking foundation model APIs (Anthropic Claude, Amazon Titan), building RAG applications with Bedrock Knowledge Bases, and integrating Bedrock into data pipelines and applications
  • Strong experience setting up and managing AWS data infrastructure including S3, Redshift, Glue, Lake Formation, and IAM
  • Advanced knowledge of AWS security, IAM roles and policies, data encryption with KMS, and performance tuning of AWS data services
  • Minimum 5+ years in data engineering and data warehousing with demonstrated AWS experience
  • Expertise in ETL/ELT processes and tools including AWS Glue, dbt, and Apache Airflow (Amazon MWAA)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to learn quickly
