We are seeking an experienced Business Continuity Expert to join our Assurance, Risk and Compliance team to strengthen organisational resilience, lead continuity planning and embed proactive recovery and preparedness practices across BDA. In this role you will partner with cross-functional teams to design, test and improve business continuity and crisis response arrangements that protect people, capability and mission outcomes.
This is an opportunity to contribute to a small, high-impact team of assurance specialists and investigators, shape continuity processes and tools, and influence resilience improvements across the business.
Applicants must be an Australian citizen and be able to obtain an NV1 security clearance. Preferred location is Brisbane CBD, with occasional travel to other BDA sites. This is a temporary full time opportunity for 12 months.

Responsibilities
- Lead development, maintenance and continuous improvement of enterprise Business Continuity Management (BCM) plans and playbooks.
- Conduct business impact analyses (BIA), risk assessments and capability gap analyses to prioritise recovery strategies and single-point-of-failure mitigation.
- Develop, coordinate and facilitate realistic exercises, simulations and scenario-based crisis response drills; capture lessons learned and drive improvement actions.
- Support response by leading business continuity activation, coordination of recovery activities and ensuring effective handover between response and recovery phases.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on continuity, resilience and recovery to program and functional leaders, including development of contingency arrangements and redundancy strategies.
- Integrate continuity planning with safety, security, cyber, supply chain and operational risk activities to ensure aligned and comprehensive resilience controls.
- Develop, review and improve continuity templates, triggers, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and governance artefacts to ensure consistent, auditable practice across BDA.
- Design, develop and deliver training on BCM to relevant business unit participants.
- Analyse incident and exercise data to identify trends, predictive indicators and opportunities for proactive mitigation and improved recovery outcomes.
- Present continuity risks, status of readiness and improvement recommendations to senior leadership and governance forums.
Experience / Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline (e.g., Business Continuity, Risk Management, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety) or equivalent industry experience.
- 5+ years' experience in business continuity, crisis management, resilience, emergency management or closely related roles in a regulated, complex environment (aerospace, defence, aviation, utilities, financial services, mining etc.).
- Demonstrated expertise in BCM frameworks, business impact analysis and continuity plan development.
- Certifications such as ISO 22301 Lead Implementer/Auditor or equivalent or Professional industry memberships are highly desirable.
- Experience integrating continuity with safety management systems (SMS), security, cyber resilience and supply chain risk management.
- Strong skills in exercise design, facilitation and after-action review to drive actionable improvements.
- Competency with risk management frameworks and data analysis/reporting tools to support trend analysis and management reporting.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with proven ability to influence leaders and coordinate multi-disciplinary responses under pressure.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
