We are recruiting a highly experienced Business Development Manager to join our APAC Business Development team, based in Sydney. 

The role

Working closely with partners and lawyers, you will focus on deepening and expanding key client relationships across a select group of practice groups and sectors in Sydney, the broader region, and globally. You will also play a pivotal role in identifying and delivering profiling initiatives that elevate Pinsent Masons’ market brand. 

As Business Development Manager, you will play a critical role driving strategic business development outcomes aligned to the firms APAC growth strategy. You day will include but not be limited to:

Strategic Business Development & Revenue Support

  • Prepare highquality proposals, bids, pitches, and credentials statements

  • Develop and execute sector and group business development plans 

  • Identify new business opportunities and expand existing client relationships across Asia Pacific

  • Advise lawyers on client targeting, opportunity pursuit, and relationship development best practice

  • Lead and support marketfacing profiling initiatives, including events, sponsorships, and thought leadership, ensuring alignment with strategy and budget

Leadership & People Management

  • Supervise and mentor two direct reports, ensuring delivery of highquality outputs and continuous skill development

  • Provide ontheground leadership and act as a trusted senior BD advisor within the Sydney office

Collaboration & Regional Engagement

  • Drive the firm’s priority initiatives across Asia Pacific

  • Act as a key liaison point for Sydneybased partner BD enquiries, triaging requests to the appropriate regional or global BD team members

Marketing, Profile & Brand Management 

  • Oversee the planning and delivery of Sydneybased events

  • Ensure credentials and marketleading work are captured and maintained in the firmwide database

  • Manage CRM enquiries and contribute to improving CRM data integrity

  • Support the firm’s profileraising initiatives across multiple channels, including OutLaw, newsletters, media, sponsorships, conferences, research, and social media

Governance, Budget & Quality Control 

  • Manage and apply BD budgets responsibly, ensuring activities deliver value for money and align with strategy

  • Oversee and qualitycheck legal directory submissions for supported teams and groups

  • Work with PAs and BD colleagues to ensure consistent CV, credentials, and event support processes

About you

As our Business Development Manager, you will thrive in a collaborative, international environment and enjoy balancing strategic thinking with hands-on delivery.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • A minimum of 8 years’ experience in business development

  • Previous people management experience

  • Experience working within a law firm 

  • Previous experience with a CRM (InterAction preferred) 

  • Experience in a similar role within a partnership or professional services environment

  • Strong knowledge of the legal market

  • Excellent project and time management capabilities

  • Impeccable communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders

  • Broad knowledge of some or all of the firm’s core sectors and practice groups would be highly regarded
