The role

As our Public Sector (Corporate) practice group continues to grow we have an exciting opportunity for a lawyer to join us. You will get exposure to some of the largest, most significant projects and procurements undertaken by the Commonwealth / NSW Governments. In particular, you will work closely with a Special Counsel who has a strong focus on privacy, data protection, technology projects and the use and procurement of emerging technologies.

While the legal work is public sector focused, this varied role will also give you the opportunity to work on matters for the private sector.

This full-time role is based in our Sydney office.

  • draft a variety of contracts and support contract negotiations
  • develop your client relationship skills through opportunities to work closely with clients
  • collaborate with other practice groups within our firm, including from our Forensic and Technology Services team
  • provide advice under the guidance of industry-leading practitioners.

About you

To be successful in this role you are someone who:

  • has at least 2-3 years' post qualification experience either in-house and/or in a leading private practice law firm
  • has proven experience in commercial contracting; experience in public sector procurement and complex ICT transactions is desirable, but is not essential
  • is naturally collegiate and priorities respect for peers and collaboration
  • takes a straightforward, practical approach to deliver commercially astute client service in a clear and useful manner
  • is able to manage multiple matters
  • has a strong attention to detail
  • has a strong academic record of achievement
  • has an existing Commonwealth security clearance or the ability to obtain one.

In addition to this, we are looking for a self-starter. Someone who will utilise their initiative and is focused on providing outstanding service to their clients.

The Public Sector team

Our National Public Sector group is widely regarded as the premier private government practice in the country and has a wealth of talent and experience within the team.

The team helps a range of Commonwealth and State Government departments and agencies with some of their most interesting, significant and technically challenging programs, projects and matters generally.  We use our skills to solve complex legal problems, assist with the development and implementation of program strategy, and inform policy development.
