Airtree backs Aussie and Kiwi founders building the iconic technology companies of tomorrow. We’re investors and builders of the technology ecosystem, powered by our network at the frontier of what’s next. As one of the largest and most active early-stage investors in Australia and New Zealand with $2 billion FUM, Airtree’s 140+ portfolio features the region’s breakout tech companies, including Canva, Go1, Employment Hero, Airwallex, Pet Circle, Immutable and Linktree.

We manage over $2bn across five fund vintages. Our investor base has evolved from Australian family offices and super funds to include some of the world's largest university endowments, sovereigns, fund-of-funds, insurance companies and pension funds across the US, Europe and Asia. About two-thirds of our most recent $650 million raise came from tier-one global institutional investors — many backing Australian venture for the first time.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Capital Formation you will own the production and analysis work that our LP’s care about - fund performance, portfolio benchmarking, deployment pacing. This work lives in decks, memos and our data room. You will work directly with our General Partners (internal) and Head of Capital Formation, absorb context from meetings and then produce sharp material. An important part of the role is figuring out the narrative around the numbers and finding a compelling way to frame it.

Alongside Capital Formation, you will also support the investment team with analysis work on portfolio performance, sector benchmarking, and follow-on rounds. This is a rare opportunity for exposure and training on both sides of the VC table.

You will have 2-4 years of experience in investment banking or consulting ideally, and want to move into venture. You will get direct exposure to global LPs, to the Partners, and to the best technology founders in the region. Consider this your Venture MBA, where you will learn the fundamentals of a VC firm. It will position you well for Capital Formation management, Investing or joining a startup.

What You Will Do
Build the materials
  • Create and edit the presentations that go to prospective and existing LPs, from first outline to final version.
  • Turn a rough brief and a set of meeting notes into a polished, coherent narrative without needing to be walked through every step.
  • Maintain and improve our core fundraising materials so they're always current and always accurate.
  • Own version control, consistency and quality across everything the capital formation team produces.

Do the analysis
  • Build the numbers that support the story: performance data, benchmarking, portfolio metrics, fund-level analysis.
  • Research the market and our peer set to work out where Airtree genuinely stands.
  • Pressure-test claims before they go into a deck, so nothing we put in front of an investor can't be defended.
  • Pull together data for LP requests, diligence questions and reporting.

Support the fundraising effort
  • Prepare briefing material ahead of LP meetings so your key stakeholders are fully across the details.
  • Capture the outcome of those meetings and feed it back into how we position ourselves.
  • Work with the Investor Relations Manager on CRM data, roadshow logistics and investor communications.
  • Take on more direct LP contact over time as you build context and credibility.
Support fund performance and track record analysis
  • Support the fund-level analysis behind our investor materials, covering portfolio construction, ownership and reserves strategy, deployment pacing, and how each vintage is tracking against plan.
  • Support benchmarking Airtree against peer funds on performance, fund size, pacing and portfolio construction, drawing on PitchBook, Preqin, Cambridge Associates and public disclosures.
  • Own the underlying data for LP diligence requests and DDQs, making sure every figure ties back to source and reconciles with what finance and the investment team hold.

RequirementsMust Haves
  • 2-4 years' experience in investment banking, management consulting, or a comparable analytical role.
  • A degree in finance, commerce, economics or similar.
  • Analytical rigour. You can pull apart a dataset, sanity-check numbers and find minor errors easily.
  • Exceptional attention to detail. Everything you produce is polished.
  • Serious deck craft. You can build a presentation that's clear, well-structured and looks good, and you're fast at it.
  • You work quickly without dropping quality, and you can juggle several pieces of work against real deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication. You can distill something complicated into something clear.
  • You handle senior stakeholders well. You take a brief properly, ask the right questions upfront, and come back with something close to right the first time.
  • Real interest in technology and startups. You want to be in venture.
  • A team player. We are a small team with little hierarchy. You roll up your sleeves and help your team mates and you expect the same of them.
  • You use AI to optimise your work but are authentic and have a 0 AI slop policy.
Nice to Haves
  • Exposure to private capital, fund structures, or LP dynamics.
  • Experience preparing materials for institutional investors, boards, or investment committees.
  • Familiarity with venture performance metrics like TVPI, DPI and IRR.

What you need to know about the Sydney Tech Scene

From opera to comedy shows, the Sydney Opera House hosts more than 1,600 performances a year, yet its entertainment sector isn't the only one taking center stage. The city's tech sector has earned a reputation as one of the fastest-growing in the region. More specifically, its IT sector stands out as the country's third-largest, growing at twice the rate of overall employment in the past decade as businesses continue to digitize their operations to stay competitive.
