The Category Development Manager (CDM) is responsible for developing and managing the Category and Shopper plan for key customers to lead and deliver innovative category solutions with the support of National Sales and Trade Marketing. The CDM will provide leading shopper insight through research and data to create actions that drive our product, price, place and promotional strategies with our key customers. The CDM will contribute to the development of the Off Premise Commercial Strategy as well as support the business with relevant understanding and insight as and when required. In addition, the CDM will manage and develop external relationships with key customer contacts defined within the company contact strategy.

Job Description

LEAD THE CATEGORY AGENDA FOR AGREED KEY CUSTOMERS

  • Develop relationships with key customers, driving category strategy, and delivering specialised category projects
  • Ensure strong category ranging and assortment recommendation aligned to range review cycles working to ensure Category and Brand Fair Share are achieved
  • Commercialise category initiatives and collaborate with the National Sales team to realise opportunities for Red Bull including recommendations to maximise sales effectiveness and ROI
  • Support key customers with category promotional guidelines to drive promotional efficiency
  • Lead annual Category Planning Days and end of year Category Reviews
  • Create customised retailer specific selling stories creating and leveraging all available selling materials

DEVELOP & DRIVE THE PRODUCT, PRICE, PLACE & PROMOTIONAL STRATEGIES FOR KEY CUSTOMERS

  • Set the product and ranging priorities throughout the store
  • Review and develop the Pricing and Promotional architectures across the Red Bull range ensuring a price premium above the competition and value via trade up
  • Responsible for accurate and compliance of merchandising principles across all key customers
  • Drive the Space Management agenda with key customers working to minimise out of stocks and maximise our fair share index at shelf
  • Work with the National Sales team to recommend opportunities and tactics to maximise sales effectiveness and ROI of Trade Investment
  • Provide quarterly measurement and evaluation of all major customer/channel initiatives and promotions

TRANSFORM RESEARCH INTO SHOPPER & RETAIL INSIGHTS AND INSIGHTS INTO ACTION

  • Analyse data from internal and external sources (e.g. Circana/Summit/Quantium) to identify market and shopper insights and consumer trends and provide strategies to capitalize on these trends
  • Align Shopper and Consumer research to underpin our Off Premise Sales strategy and shape our Category Vision
  • Utilise data to drive key initiatives with retailers to capitalize on unique and specific opportunities and work with the Head of Category to initiate local “shopper” research projects
  • Work closely with Trade Marketing to develop specific retail concepts and solutions that will meet new shopper needs and win versus the competition

DEVELOP & EMBED CATEGORY TRAINING

  • Provide quality category presentations and workshops during internal meetings and conferences
  • Responsible for delivering category training with the support of the wider Category & Trade Marketing team across all levels of the National, Field Sales and Distributor Partner teams

Qualifications

  • Minimum 4+ years’ experience in Category Management
  • Experience in Trade Marketing, Shopper Insight, Brand Management and Account Management (desirable)
  • Bachelor Degree in business/marketing or equivalent level of education
  • Experience with Circana/AC Nielsen/Quantium/Synergy/Summit
  • Excellent analytical skills with an ability to draw conclusions from data
  • Exceptional communication skills, including presenting and training abilities
  • Strong planning and project management competencies with an ability to multi-task and prioritise
  • In-depth knowledge of the consumer goods industry and trade (desirable)
  • Must be advanced in Microsoft Excel and in PowerPoint.
  • Space software experience desireable – i.e. JDA or Apollo
