Experience Chapter Lead (UI) 13-Month Fixed Term Contract

  • Lead, develop and grow your own team of extraordinary designers, further strengthening CBA’s design approach to engaging our across our digital experiences.

  • Creating and delivering the Digital customer and staff experience vision across all our digital touch points.

  • Work with talented team of Researchers, Experience Designers, UI Designers, Human-Cantered Designers and Accessibility experts.

You will be reporting to the Experience Chapter Area Lead and have line management responsibility for a team of UI Designers whilst, working closely with Experience Chapter Leads and Crew Leads to manage capability, resourcing and provide UI thought leadership across the Experience Chapter and through product delivery.

Your responsibilities

  • Help us re-define how people interact with their finances and evolve the future of digital banking. We’d like you to join us on the journey and bring your unique experiences and skills to our team.

  • Regularly develop and nurture 1:1 relationships with your direct reports to ensure development goals are realised and capability is continuously challenged.

  • Providing strategic design direction and creative vision across all digital touch points and features in the banking eco-system. You will be involved in all phases of a project, ensuring the quality of work is up to high User Interface standards and exceeding our strategic goals.

  • Be an advocate for our Design System to drive pattern efficiencies across our digital assets—NetBank, Commbank.com.au and the Commbank app, a strategic enabler for us to scale delivery support

  • As a leader of the craft and discipline, you will be responsible for evolving the UI Design practice at CBA. Constantly looking to make improvements in the way your teams work, to consistently deliver high quality products and find simpler, better ways of operation with fellow UI leads.

  • Ensure designs are addressing user and business needs. Assisting with strategy and making sure the goals are in line with the company by collaborating across disciplines.

  • A keen learner, and inspiring teacher, you welcome feedback in pursuit of self-improvement. Seeking opportunities to expand your own capabilities and finding ways to mentor and grow individual designers by sharing your own experience.

  • A leader who can jump on the tools when needed and lead from the front. Turning frameworks into usable interactions, prototypes and iterations whilst also being able to provide creative critique to ensure UI best practices are delivered.

We are looking for:

  • Strong experience in a people and leadership role, inspiring a team and influencing stakeholders. Enthusiastic about coaching and mentoring designers to raise the bar

  • A conceptual thinker, who can consider big ideas, identify product and design opportunities, explore them visually, and distil them into actionable direction

  • Strong visual and interaction designs skills, along with the ability to help shape product vision, and design strategy

  • Demonstration of experience creating UI, design systems, prototyping, motion design, style guides & specs

  • A track record of working in a complex, multi-platform, multi-device ecosystems. An expert in the confluence of brand, product and interaction

  • Strong UX sensibilities and a well-rounded product designer with an eye for detail. Functioning across the entire design spectrum

  • Technically literate designer, capable of defining and shaping work processes with engineering partners

  • An experienced designer with a litany of tools at your disposal: motion graphics, sketching, and pixel-perfect screen designs

  • A passion for big ideas and storytelling. Demonstrating authority and confidence with the ability to facilitate discussions to challenge assumptions, give critical feedback, and drive consensus

  • An established career in the digital design industry, with a theoretical understanding of Interaction Design practice and visual communications

  • Most of all an individual who wants to play a big part in an even bigger design
