Your Impact

We’re now searching for a Chief Engineer of AI Research (Deep Learning) to take our Adelaide based CommBank Centre for Foundational AI Research to the next groundbreaking phase. 

We are looking for someone who cares about the inside of AI, not just how it can be put to use. 

Shape the future of AI innovation, driving breakthroughs in deep learning that will influence global research and transform how AI is applied to real-world banking challenges. 

  • Collaborate with world-leading AI researchers and contribute to global advancements in machine learning, with your work influencing both academic thought and industry practice. 

  • Lead and inspire a world-class AI research team, bridging academia and industry application.

  • Expand research into next-generation AI architectures from Transformers to ConvNets and beyond. 

  • Develop the foundations for building high-performing AI models that are computationally and memory efficient and cost effective. 

  • Inspire and mentor our PhD interns, nurturing bold thinking and creative exploration. 

About you 

You’re a hands-on technologist experienced in designing and deploying FML models into production, whether gained in start-ups, scale-ups, or large enterprises.  What matters is your: 

  • Creativity & Curiosity for AI Deep Learning research, and passion for bold experimentation. 

  • Strategic Vision and fascination for building AI systems for real world challenges. 

  • Dedication to developing AI Models that are accurate, fair and transparent, ensuring trust and reliability in real-world deployment. 

  • Knowledge of Scalable and resource efficient models that are computationally and memory efficient, enabling deployment at scale. 

  • Technical expertise in neural network architecture and methods (e.g., LLM’s, LMM’s, Transformers/ConvNets/RNNs, optimization strategies, big data training algorithms). Taking the models to new architectures and paradigms such as, adding System 2 capabilities – reasoning. 

  • Passion for leadership, inspiring and expanding the minds of our academic interns.  

A Master’s/PhD in Machine Learning (or similar) is highly regarded.
