Job Description

This role is a unique opportunity within TAL to work closely with the Claims Insights and Analytics Manager, and the Head of Portfolio Management to drive optimal commercial and customer outcomes across TAL’s Individual Life Portfolio. You will use your life insurance acumen, as well as analytics and stakeholder management skills to provide actionable insights to the Individual Life Claims team. Your key accountabilities include monitoring and reporting on the key operational drivers of our claims experience, and executing on key strategic initiatives and other deep-dive insights. This requires you to be a valued business partner to the Individual Life Claims team and the broader Individual Life team to optimise outcomes for TAL and our customers. This is an analytics role that provides exposure to a very wide range of commercial issues with the potential to have real impact. It is the ideal role for a motivated and accountable actuarial candidate who has strong communication skills, likes to work across a variety of projects, and a quick learner with a keenness to understand and influence the end-to-end value chain and thrives in solving complex problems.

In this role you will: 

  • Support the Individual Life Claim team with insights into the Claims portfolio to enable optimal operational and customer outcomes.
  • Produce accurate weekly and monthly reporting to the Claims team and Senior Leadership Team on a timely manner.
  • Be inquisitive in performing deep dives into claims data (structured and unstructured) to better understand the underlying drivers of claims. This will require building relationships with Finance and Claims teams.
  • Utilise your analytics skills to develop, maintain and enhance BAU processes using SQL, Python/R, PowerBI and Excel to better understand the key trends in claims.
  • Contribute to and drive key strategic projects and deep dive actuarial analysis utilising your insurance acumen, stakeholder management and analytical skills to support execution of the Individual Life Strategy. 

Qualifications

  •  
  • 1-5 years’ experience in the Australian Life Insurance Market.
  • Strong technical actuarial and financial skills to understand the key variance drivers of claims experience and a drive to improve customer outcomes.
  • Strong analytics skills with experience in software packages such as Python, R, SQL, PowerBI and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and accountability.
  • Demonstrable experience in delivering quality outcomes on multiple tasks and projects within planned timeframes independently.
  • High level of relationship building skills.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills both written and verbal.
