Job Description

This role is accountable for the effective centralised management, calculation and monitoring of commissions and other remuneration due and payable by TAL to our Distributors under their various distribution agreements. The Commissions Consultant will work in collaboration with sales leaders and operational support teams predominately across the Retail business to ensure timely and accurate payment of Commissions to our Dealer network. The Commissions Consultant will also be responsible for ensuring the governance, administration and related decision making of all aspects of the Commissions process throughout each month. You will be required to communicate with and engage with customers, advisers and dealer group representatives and collaborate with senior stakeholders within the business using a variety of communication strategies (face-to-face, written, telephone, group presentation). Our team deals with senior stakeholders on sensitive matters, so great communication skills and a high level of professionalism is essential. You will be responsible for managing complex tasks, escalations and driving process improvements across the wider Adviser Services business.

In this role you will:

  • Accountable for calculations and payments of commissions and other remunerations to Distributors through their commission statement in line with TAL’s various Distribution Agreements and payment guidelines.
  • Reconciliation of Commissions payments messages with Policy records.
  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and presentations of all payments to Distributors.
  • Monitor payment trends to manage integrity and accuracy of payments.
  • Plan and deliver RCTI & commission statements including participation in recommendations and authorisations functions for payments to Distributors.
  • Proactive management of relationships and queries; including research, update records and opportunities to resolve them.
  • Engage with Senior Management including liaising with state offices, sales management teams and head office business units as necessary.
  • Meets business unit goals and timeframes. Efficient and effective operation of relevant systems and processes.
  • Maintain and update TAL Distribution agreements and commission schedules, adviser manuals on commission matters.
  • Complex calculations and payments of commissions on various major policy alterations, including replacement business and associated journals.
  • Proactively designs and implements solutions to improve effectiveness and productivity across the team.
  • Ownership of the team procedure manuals and ensuring procedures clearly reflect processing.
  • Drives own and others' accountabilities and challenges the status quo.
  • Responsible for providing training and guidance to new staff.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in finance or related discipline
  • A minimum of 2+ years in a similar role or a finance/business performance environment
  • Strong written and oral capability
  • Advanced Excel capabilities is essential
  • Ability to adapt to various systems, and work with data (MS Office and SQL are also essential)
  • Understanding of complex structures and financial concepts impacting Commission payments
  • Ability to work well, communicate and negotiate optimal business outcomes with senior stakeholders
  • High attention to detail and a rigorous focus on delivering quality output
  • Sound knowledge of the Life Insurance industry
  • Excellent planning, time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to recognise, analyse and solve problems.
