Role Overview and Objectives 

In this role the Junior Writer will be responsible for producing, reviewing and editing high quality content for use on digital channels (including social media channels and digital marketing campaigns) and external events. The Junior Writer will use a range of content formats to tell Datacom's stories including short and long form content, written copy, videos and audio. This role will report to the Senior Content Editor on a day-to-day basis and will sit within the external communications team.   

Role Responsibilities 

The Junior Writer is responsible for (but not limited to):  

  • Working alongside the Senior Content Editor and supporting content producers to produce content that supports key brand, communications and marketing activities, ensuring deadlines and quality criteria are met. 
  • Proactively identifying opportunities for content to support with the wider brand and marketing focus areas.  
  • Producing a range of editorial content – both short form and long form digital content, based on interviews with internal and external stakeholders where required – to support key business objectives and marketing focus areas. 
  • Supporting the Head of Social Media’s content requirements as needed – e.g. drafting post copy and capturing content / photos (e.g. company events, cultural events) for use on Datacom social channels. 
  • Optimising content to align with SEO strategy. 
  • Ensuring brand and content guidelines are adhered to and effectively communicated internally.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

Knowledge 

Essential: Ability to write content that tells a clear and concise story, including interviewing, editing and basic digital production (editing images and video).  

Desirable: Basic photography skills.  

Podcast production. 

Digital editing and video production experience, including digital technology, content management systems (CMS), analytics and software used for editing. 

Experience in digital and social media marketing. 

Skills 

Essential: Demonstrates a passion for excellence within team including a culture of continual learning.  

Creative thinking with attention to detail 

Time management.  

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  

Ability to work at pace and meet deadlines. 

Desirable: Project management skills. 

Experience 

University Degree in Journalism or Communications (or similar). 

Desirable: Stakeholder management. 

Qualifications and Certifications 

Essential:

Journalism Degree/Communications Degree 

Desirable:

Previous writing, copywriting experience. 

1-2 years in an organisation where content production was a key task.
