Location: Sydney

Employment type: 12-month contract, with potential to extend

We are looking for an experienced Publicist to join our Ogilvy PR team on a 12-month contract, supporting a new corporate client.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Corporate Publicist supporting a major new client, you will play a crucial role in executing strategic communications campaigns through your expert knowledge of the Australian media landscape.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and proactive communications professional with experience managing corporate reputation, stakeholder communications, and media relations within complex or highly regulated environments.

You will be instrumental in liaising directly with key media and influential voices to secure coverage, developing content, leading communications activity, and supporting the day-to-day delivery of project communications.

You'll work alongside a team of specialist communications consultants, storytellers, opinion shapers, thinkers, and makers. Together, we help organisations navigate complex communications environments, build trust with stakeholders and deliver meaningful outcomes through strategic storytelling and earned influence.

You'll immerse yourself in the project landscape, understand key stakeholder priorities and think beyond traditional earned media to connect messages, audiences and channels for maximum impact.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Proactively identify, research and engage with relevant journalists, editors, producers and industry analysts across business, trade and mainstream media.
  • Develop and deliver tailored media strategies and pitches, secure interview opportunities, and manage media liaison for project spokespeople.
  • Build and maintain strong, credible relationships with key media contacts relevant to corporate affairs, infrastructure, and the broader business landscape.
  • Monitor media landscapes to identify trends, opportunities and potential risks for project reputation and stakeholder engagement.
  • Draft high-quality, impactful content including media releases, media alerts, thought leadership articles, op-eds, executive biographies, Q&As, speaking notes and stakeholder communications materials.
  • Translate complex technical, operational and corporate information into clear, concise and compelling narratives.
  • Contribute to the development of key messages and strategic communications plans to support project objectives.
  • Support senior team members in managing stakeholder and client relationships, including preparing meetings, drafting agendas, developing contact reports and managing project administration.
  • Assist in the development of communications plans, strategies and reporting focused on project and corporate objectives.
  • Conduct in-depth research on industry trends, competitor activities and media opportunities to inform communications strategies.
  • Prepare comprehensive media coverage and reporting documents.
  • Coordinate logistics for media briefings, interviews, stakeholder events and project announcements.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Experience working with large organisations, major projects, or corporate brands.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong media relationships and the ability to pitch and secure meaningful editorial outcomes.
  • Proven experience in public relations, corporate communications or media relations, either within an agency or in-house environment.
  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to adapt tone and style for a range of audiences and channels.
  • Strong understanding of the Australian media landscape, with existing relationships across business, trade, regional or mainstream media highly regarded.
  • The ability to understand project objectives and corporate reputation goals, contributing to communications strategies that deliver measurable impact.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, from proofreading content to managing deadlines and approvals.
  • A self-starter mindset with the ability to take initiative, solve problems, and work autonomously.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with multiple stakeholders.
  • An interest in business, infrastructure, and the broader economic and policy landscape.
