About the role
We’re seeking a Data Engineer to drive the ongoing design, development and operation of the TU enterprise data platform and work closely with the Data Insights team and relevant business SMEs to design, build and deliver new data pipelines for the business via a Scrum/Agile framework .
You’ll join an innovative team, who are driving AI initiatives and influencing Transurban’s technical landscape.

Day-to-day, you will:
- Provide incident and problem resolution for the data platform and seek to continuously improve the performance of the data platform
- Implement and maintain ETL processes
- Work with analytics function to ensure that the platform is providing the required data and the required performance.
- Creation, modification and enhancement of source code.
- Perform code reviews ensuring quality and efficiency.
- Maintain professional standards in all areas of the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Design Solutions for increased Automation, Continuous Integration, testability, simplicity, scalability, predictability, efficiency, security, and maintainability.
- Help deliver improved deployment frequencies (Continuous Delivery), faster time to market, lower failure rates and shortened lead time between fixes.
- Develop and deploy artefacts including views, analytical functions, and stored procedures
- Continuously monitor platform infrastructure run costs to identify cost reduction opportunities
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferable skills and experiences, including:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science or related technical discipline
- Expertise in languages like Python, Java, Scala, or SQL
- In-depth knowledge of relational databases (SQL) and NoSQL databases
- Understanding of data warehousing concepts, tools, and best practices for storing and processing large datasets is vital for building efficient data pipelines.
- Big Data Technologies: Familiarity with technologies like Spark Snowflake, Spark, or BigQuery, along with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Snowflake or BigQuery experience especially beneficial. Also DBT, Tableau and Informatica
- Knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for data storage, processing, and deployment.
- Ability to design efficient and scalable data models and schemas for different data sources and storage systems.
- Experience working with business leadership to design data solutions that meet business needs, and demonstrated eye for solutions that will meet business needs.
- Experience working with large, complex source systems, and working with developers of those systems to dig in and understand the complexities of the data.
- Experience with integration of data from multiple data sources
- Knowledge of various data ingestion techniques and frameworks, including event, stream, file, and database.
- Enjoys discovering and solving problems.
- Self-starter, with excellent time management and organisational skills.
- An accomplished and effective communicator at all levels and across all mediums.
- Collaborative team player with an open mindset
