The Data Product Manager will manage the product roadmap and external data sharing while collaborating with data science and engineering teams to enhance model performance and define long-term data strategies for utilities.
The summary above was generated by AI

Electricity grids are undergoing the most significant transformation in a century. The shift to renewables, the proliferation of rooftop solar, batteries, and EVs, and the increasing complexity of distribution networks are forcing utilities to operate their grids in fundamentally new ways.

Gridsight builds the data engine that makes this possible. We're already embedded with most of Australia's major distribution networks and have contracts with some of the largest investor-owned utilities in the United States. We're well-funded, growing quickly, and positioned at the centre of a global shift toward dynamic grid management.

Locations: Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Adelaide, Brisbane or remote Australia

The Role

We’re hiring a Data Product Manager to own the squad responsible for how Gridsight models, stores, and surfaces the electrical state of the grid. This team is the observational backbone of the Gridsight platform – the data it produces powers our constraint management, connections assessments, and analytics capabilities that utilities depend on daily.

This is a product management role with a deep data domain at its core. The portfolio spans network event detection models, the data platform and system of record, Gridsight’s external data sharing products, and the analytics platform. We've built something real in a space that's broad, technically deep, and moving fast. You bring clarity to complexity, structure to momentum, and rigour to a problem worth solving properly.

What You'll Do
  • Own the product roadmap across network event detection models, the data platform and system of record, external data sharing, and the analytics platform – sequencing delivery and maintaining a coherent strategy across a broad, interconnected portfolio.
  • Own Gridsight’s external data sharing product – defining what data is published, how it is governed, versioned and maintained to support production integrations.
  • Ship step-change improvements to our detection models – working closely with data science in a tight, iterative collaboration to meaningfully advance model performance.
  • Drive significant data platform investments owning the product direction for foundational infrastructure improvements that underpin Gridsight's ability to scale.
  • Manage a high volume of competing product requests from Australian and US utility customers – bringing first-principles judgment to prioritisation and honest communication to stakeholders.
  • Define the longer-term data product strategy – data product boundaries, data contracts and an architectural direction the data engineering team can execute toward.
What You'll Bring
  • 5+ years of product management experience with a strong data domain at the core – having owned data products, data platforms, or API products in an enterprise product environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of data as a product – consumer needs, quality contracts, SLAs, and governance.
  • Experience with API product management or data catalog products – versioning, backward compatibility, SLA design, and change management for production data consumers.
  • The ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams in a complex, ambiguous environment – prioritising effectively when everything is seemingly important.
  • Proven ability to work closely with data engineering and data science teams – translating technical complexity into clear product requirements.
  • Experience in a high-growth startup or scale-up where the product scope is still being defined.
What Would Set You Apart
  • Experience building or shipping AI or ML-powered products - understanding how models move from research through to production and iteration as first-class product capabilities.
  • Background in energy, utilities, telecommunications or adjacent infrastructure domains.
  • Experience with time-series or operational data at scale.
  • Experience with model validation frameworks or MLOps in a production context.
  • Familiarity with Delta Sharing, data mesh concepts, or similar data federation patterns.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and equity package
  • Remote-first, with head office in Sydney
  • A talented team of product managers, engineers, data scientists, and power systems specialists working on hard problems that matter

What you need to know about the Sydney Tech Scene

From opera to comedy shows, the Sydney Opera House hosts more than 1,600 performances a year, yet its entertainment sector isn't the only one taking center stage. The city's tech sector has earned a reputation as one of the fastest-growing in the region. More specifically, its IT sector stands out as the country's third-largest, growing at twice the rate of overall employment in the past decade as businesses continue to digitize their operations to stay competitive.
