Retail Banking Services (RBS) is the public face of CommBank, delivering a seamless banking experience for the future, to our 10 million+ personal and small business customers. We offer market-leading products and services, supported by some of the world’s best systems and processes.
As a Data Scientist within the RBS Decision Science Consumer Finance team, you will support the development and management models for the Consumer Finance business which help improve outcomes for our customers. This includes areas such as credit risk decisioning where our models help assess thousands of customer credit applications a day, customer contact strategy where models are used to help identify customer needs - and more generally any area where modelling and AI can add value to customer outcomes. You’ll work closely with key stakeholders, such as the Portfolio teams, Finance and Group to ensure modelling outcomes are accurate and are in alignment to the strategic direction of the business.

The Decision Science team within Retail Banking Services is responsible for creation of AI and modelling solutions to improve the financial well-being of our customers and communities.
The Decision Science Consumer Finance team within Retail Banking Services supports the Consumer Finance business through the development and maintenance of predictive models, creating insights to enable business decision making at a strategic and tactical level. These models help support end-to-end product performance of all the retail Consumer Finance products (e.g. Credit Cards, Personal Loans, StepPay, CommBank AdvancePay) across all key applications, including marketing, credit risk, operations and portfolio management.
Role and Responsibilities:
You will be responsible for the development and management of key modelling assets within the team, with an objective to utilise state of the art data science and statistical techniques to improve business and customer outcomes.
More specifically this will include:

Driving value through timely delivery of industry leading machine learning and statistical models that solve defined business issues and are fully compliant with all required policies and governance.

Ensuring outlined methodologies are followed, whilst also identifying and driving the delivery and embedment of continuous improvement initiatives.

Proactively contributing to and encouraging the sharing of knowledge with team members and stakeholders.

We want to hear from you if you have:

Demonstrated knowledge of building predictive machine learning models and statistical models, and other advanced analytical techniques.

High attention to detail and concern for accuracy, completeness and appropriateness of solutions.

Advanced technical skills - ability to generate actionable value-add insights by understanding complex data and using tools such as Python, R, Spark, Teradata SQL.

A relevant tertiary qualification e.g. Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Biostatics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Engineering or similar.
