ING Australia is seeking a high‑impact Defensive Security Engineer to help elevate and strengthen our cyber defense capabilities. In this hands‑on role, you’ll design, deploy, and optimise cutting‑edge security technologies across on‑prem, cloud, and hybrid environments—ensuring our systems are secure by design and resilient against evolving threats.
Working alongside engineering, operations, and global security teams, you’ll play a key role in building and maintaining robust security controls that meet both regulatory standards and ING’s own high security expectations.

What you’ll do …
Design and deploy defensive security tools across on‑prem, cloud and hybrid environments.
Maintain and optimise security technologies, including SIEM, EDR and vulnerability scanners.
Embed security by design by advising engineering and development teams on secure configurations.
Enhance detection and response by tuning tools and supporting incident investigations.
Develop and maintain security standards, runbooks and documentation, ensuring compliance.
Collaborate with risk, audit, tech and global security teams to identify, track and remediate threats and vulnerabilities.
What we’re looking for...
7+ years in security engineering or similar technical roles, with proven experience designing and implementing security controls and solutions.
Broad technical security expertise with depth in at least one area: cloud security/DevSecOps, infrastructure security, network security, data or email security.
Hands‑on experience with key security tools, including SIEM (Splunk, Sentinel), vulnerability scanners (Nessus, WIZ, Prisma), and endpoint/network/cloud security technologies.
Strong scripting and automation capability using Python, PowerShell or Bash.
Practical experience in threat analysis, vulnerability remediation and incident response, with ability to apply findings to strengthen defensive posture.
