Job Description

As the Development Manager, you will provide technical leadership for the delivery of Enterprise Functions across the TAL Business. You will work with your team to ensure all day-to-day technology activities of the Finance, Risk, Legal, and P&C business units are managed effectively. This includes coaching and mentoring the team, taking accountability for delivery, risks, and issues, and continuously improving development practices. You will also be responsible for planning and scheduling the team's work, owning the applications and systems, and supporting through L2 Service desk and Application Management Support teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the delivery team's purpose and objectives are clear and aligned with TAL's vision and strategic plan.
  • Translate business objectives into streams of work, aligning technology and business strategy.
  • Provide technical direction to teams and customers, delivering innovative technical solutions.
  • Offer advice and thought leadership for successful design and implementation of technology strategies.
  • Collaborate with product owners, IT stakeholders, and other leaders to deliver initiatives using agile methods.
  • Develop and maintain processes essential to quality and traceability, fostering a culture of ownership and innovation 
  • Manage operational requirements, including incident management and minor production updates

Qualifications

  • At least five (5) years’ experience in a Tech Lead or Development Management role, delivering innovative products and continuous improvements to customers.
  • Strong technical background, ideally having worked as a developer for 5+ years, including experience with the Azure Cloud platform, .Net and SQL Server.
  • Deep architectural understanding of digital platforms with a passion for discovering, understanding and coaching teams on the latest digital trends.
  • Solid experience implementing DevOps and CI/CD (Azure DevOps) practices in delivery teams, including automated build, testing (functional and non-functional).
  • Previous experience leading teams with successful delivery of highly available, scalable and performant application systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, adaptive and resilient in a fast-changing environment.
  • Excellent knowledge of and experience in the application of agile and lean practices, working with industry leading tools such as Jira and Confluence and assisting the team in breaking down user stories, sizing and estimating tasks, removing impediments, mitigating risks and, where required, facilitating agile ceremonies (Daily Stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Sprint Review and Sprint Retrospective rituals).
  • Experience in managing multiple deliveries concurrently.
  • Ability to effectively facilitate meetings to obtain commitment & resolve issues.
