Who we are

Optiver is a global market maker founded in Amsterdam, with offices in London, Chicago, Austin, New York, Sydney, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taipei and Mumbai. Established in 1986, today we are a leading liquidity provider, with close to 2,000 employees in offices around the world, united in our commitment to improve the market through competitive pricing, execution and risk management. By providing liquidity on multiple exchanges across the world in various financial instruments we participate in the safeguarding of healthy and efficient markets. We provide liquidity to financial markets using our own capital, at our own risk, trading a wide range of products: listed derivatives, cash equities, ETFs, bonds and foreign currencies.

Optiver’s Sydney office is one of the primary players within Asian markets, trading a range of products. Established in 1996, we're an active participant on the Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Japan exchanges, and act as Optiver’s APAC head office.

What you’ll do

We’re looking for a hands-on technical leader to join the Developer Excellence team at Optiver and guide our efforts in the APAC region. This is a hybrid role that blends individual contribution with people and strategic leadership. You’ll work closely with 2–3 engineers in APAC, act as their people leader, and provide coaching, direction, and growth support. At the same time, you’ll remain actively involved in shaping and delivering projects that modernise our development lifecycle- from tooling to CI/CD pipelines to platform consistency.

While you’ll provide local leadership in APAC, you’ll be an integral part of the Global DevEx team. That means working in close partnership with peers across EMEA and the US to deliver on shared goals, contribute to cross-regional initiatives, and ensure alignment on technical direction. You’ll also represent the APAC region in global planning, helping to ensure regional perspectives are embedded in our broader strategy, while maintaining strong local stakeholder relationships.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys a balance of technical execution, team leadership, and shaping high-leverage improvements to how software gets built and shipped at scale.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Lead and support a small team of 2–3 engineers in the APAC region, providing coaching, career development, and clear technical direction.

  • Contribute directly to the design and implementation of projects that improve the software development lifecycle, such as:

    • Designing, building, and maintaining scalable build systems used across the company - including core build libraries, common CI/CD pipelines, Docker images.

    • Optimising build performance across multiple languages and platforms.

    • Enhancing tooling that simplify day-to-day development at Optiver and make iteration faster and more seamless.

  • Collaborate globally with peers in EMEA and the US to deliver cross-regional projects that unify the developer experience globally.

  • Represent APAC in global planning and technical discussions, ensuring local context is factored into platform-wide decisions.

  • Partner with engineering teams in APAC to understand workflow pain points, gather feedback on DevEx solutions, and help drive adoption of new tools and practices.

  • Shape the team roadmap in alignment with Optiver’s broader engineering priorities, balancing proactive improvements with critical support needs.

Who you are
  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering or DevEx/Platform Engineering roles.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical projects end-to-end.

  • Prior leadership experience.

  • Strong understanding of software development workflows and developer tooling.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and build systems (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bazel, or similar).

  • Experienced writing software in Python with a proven ability to deliver scalable, reliable, high-quality code, and experience across other languages like C++ and C#.

  • Comfortable owning and operating CI platforms like GitHub Actions or Jenkins and VCS platforms like GitHub and GitLab

  • Familiar with containerised development and build workflows, including Docker

What you’ll get

You’ll join a culture of collaboration and excellence, where you’ll be surrounded by curious thinkers and creative problem solvers. Driven by a passion for continuous improvement, you’ll thrive in a supportive, high-performing environment alongside talented colleagues, working collectively to tackle some of the most complex problems in the financial markets.

In return for your expertise, you will have access to a range of Optiver perks, including:

  • A performance-based bonus structure unmatched anywhere in the industry. We combine our profits across desks, teams and offices into a global profit pool, fostering a truly collaborative environment.

  • The chance to work alongside diverse and intelligent peers in a rewarding environment.

  • Training, mentorship and personal development opportunities.

  • Daily breakfast, lunch and an in-house barista.

  • Gym membership plus weekly in-house chair massages.

  • Regular social events, including a company trip every two years.

  • Guided relocation, a competitive relocation package and visa sponsorship where necessary.

Diversity

Optiver is committed to diversity and inclusion. We encourage applications from candidates of all backgrounds, and welcome requests for reasonable adjustments during the process.
