We’re looking for highly skilled Diesel Fitters to join our team in Cairns to work in our Component Rebuild workshop. These are Permanent, Full-Time opportunities working a 4-day work week.
What you’ll be doing
As a Diesel Fitter at Hastings Deering, you will:
- Deliver quality services – Conducting effective rebuilds, repairs and maintenance on a range of Caterpillar Equipment Componentry to OEM specifications.
- Increase productivity – Complete all repairs and overhauls safely and within required timeframes.
- Follow the right procedures – Use service manuals, technical data and diagnostic tooling to guarantee accurate repairs.
- Maintain accurate documentation – keep detailed reports and associated paperwork for all rebuild and repair tasks.
- Conduct detailed inspections – assess all disassembled parts for reusability in line with specified guidelines.
- Ensure cleanliness and quality – uphold the highest standards at all times.
- Work efficiently – adhere to the daily overhaul schedule to meet operational requirements.
- Promote and maintain safety – operate in a safe manner across all tasks.

What you’ll need:
A successful teammate will have experience in:
- Trade Qualification – Cert III Engineering (Diesel Fitters – preferred, Automotive Mechanics, Mechanical Fitters or Mechanical trades).
- Industrial expertise – demonstrated post trade component experience.
- Safety commitment – dedicated adherence to health and safety policy and procedure.
- Independent and reliable – high level of initiative, reliability, and ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Customer focus – a customer-driven mindset with commitment to continuous improvement.
- Communication excellence – excellent communication, documentation, and time management skills.
- Eligibility – Australian/NZ Citizen or AUS Permanent Resident applicants only (we cannot accept applications from temporary residents).
