Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing the Group’s relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising, transactional and risk management products and services. The division also performs an important internal role for the Group by providing equities, markets, lending and transaction banking execution capabilities to other CBA business units that allows them to capture opportunities with business customers. This reinforces the Group’s purpose to improve the financial wellbeing of our customers and communities.

The Global Markets commodity business within IB&M provides risk management and derivative financing solutions for the Banks clients across metals & mining (precious metals, base metals & bulk commodities), oil, gas, carbon & agriculture. The business works closely with the key industry sector teams particularly Natural Resources, Transport plus the Food, Beverage & Agriculture group where their clients have significant commodity price risk that need to be managed.

The CTC business plan focuses on aligning the business to focus on delivering a key product set to the Banks clients where we have a strategic advantage.
These clients may be producers, processors, traders or consumers of commodities, across metals, energy & agricultural products but also Central Banks, Financial Institutions & hedge funds.
Our objective is to be the preferred provider of commodity risk management and financing solutions to our clients. To achieve this we are focused on hiring the best people in order to bring a comprehensive understanding of commodity industries and markets.
Do work that matters:
The role will be responsible for helping develop the commodities trading platform through continuous improvement of pricing and risk management tools, increasing product capabilities, enhanced client coverage & increasing the overall commodities profile within the Bank.
Your main responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Understand the current strategic business plan for CTC. Help identify growth opportunities, participate & contribute to longer term strategy;
Demonstrate effective pricing & risk management capabilities particularly across Australian and New Zealand Electricity and carbon products;
Generate trading revenues through identifying key trends & themes and with ownership for specific trading books execute trading strategies whilst managing P&L and operating within the risk framework of the bank;
Engage with the commodities sales & structuring teams to assist execution of the commodities strategy and engage with the broader global commodity trading team providing an exchange of information & idea generation;
Responsibility to enhance processes & procedures, including working with the commodity quant team to ensure continuous improvement of pricing and risk management capabilities;
Work closely with Product control and Market Risk functions responding to communications on a timely basis and assist new product development, working with the COO group.
We are interested in hearing from you if you have:
Relevant experience managing linear & non-linear commodity risk at a major institution;
Strong Energy markets knowledge including financial & physical markets, including experience of strong eligible counterparties and clients;
Strong analytical, quantitative & problem solving skills;
Experience of working within a team to a high level of operational control in a regulated environment
At a minimum a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Mathematics, Economics or a related field or its equivalent.
