Job Description

Whole Foods Market is seeking a Director of Paid Media to play a critical leadership role – accountable for all paid media efforts for Whole Foods Market. This leader will serve as a key contact for external media partners and internal stakeholders such as Finance, Accounting, Data Science, Analytics and Retail Marketing. The Director will work closely with our paid media agencies and a nimble team of media strategists to establish both long and short-term goals, create strategic channel and budget framework based on overall objectives, and help implement cross-channel plans that consistently produce positive business results.

This position also acts as team leader for a supporting team of 4-5 brand and performance marketing strategists. The Director will provide career development and guidance, performance evaluation, prioritization of time and projects, and overall mentorship for their direct reports.

This position is based in Austin, TX, with an expectation of being in the Austin Store Support office five days a week.

Responsibilities                                                                                

  • Assist in leading and developing overall media strategy
  • Develop and activate integrated media plans across multiple touchpoints, including but not limited to: digital, mobile, search, social, radio, streaming, TV, print, OOH, direct mail
  • Serve as Agency Partners’ key contact, ensuring plans and partnerships are activated based on strategic framework and agency partners held accountable to executing against Scope of Work
  • Accountable for managing large-scale media budgets, optimizing spend across channels to achieve profitable ROI and exceed key brand KPIs
  • Responsible for internal education and resource-sharing of measurement reports, updates, highlights, industry and competitive trends, optimizations, and campaign results broader marketing team
  • Partner with Finance and Accounting to make annual and quarterly budget forecasts
  • Partner with Procurement and co-own Agency Request for Proposal (RFP) process
  • Partner with Data Science to track and measure progress against Company-Level ROI goal inclusive of brand and performance media
  • Provide career development support and daily guidance to direct reports
  • Establish & maintain strong relationships with the global marketing department, media agencies, vendors and industry leaders
  • Collaborate with channel leading peers on marketing team to establish best practices and foster innovation and partnership
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and competitive dynamics, ensuring media strategies at Whole Foods Market are cutting edge and effective.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field preferred
  • 8+ years' experience in Agency/Client media positions
  • Leadership experience in managing multiple direct reports
  • Strategic thinker with experience creating comprehensive media plans across both traditional and digital channels for both brand-building and demand-driving efforts
  • Advanced digital skills including paid search, paid social, and programmatic, with experience in leveraging both 3rd party and 1st party data
  • Experience in Retail, Food & Bev or CPG desired
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and a strong sense of urgency
  • Outstanding communication and problem solving skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects at once in a fast-paced, results oriented environment
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing performance data, with ability to provide executive level learnings that are understandable and actionable
  • Tireless relationship and consensus builder
  • Resourceful self-starter comfortable with ambiguity
  • Energetic, friendly, and self-motivated attitude
  • A good sense of humor

  • Requires travel approximately 5-10%, as needed
