Cochlear has an exciting opportunity for a Director of User Experience (UX) to shape the design and usability of our innovative hearing solutions. Based in our Macquarie office, this leadership role is critical in ensuring our products and services meet the needs of healthcare professionals and patients.

As Director of UX, you will lead a team of UX designers and researchers, driving the development and execution of a user-centred design strategy. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders across product management, engineering, and clinical teams to advocate for UX best practices and ensure design decisions align with both user needs and business objectives. Your leadership will foster a culture of innovation and excellence, helping to deliver intuitive and impactful user experiences.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and mentor a team of UX designers, researchers, and developers, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.
  • Develop and execute the UX vision, strategy, and roadmap for the company's product and service offering.
  • Oversee user research and testing activities to gather insights on user needs, pain points, and behaviours.
  • Drive the design process from concept to final product, ensuring that designs are intuitive, safe, and effective for medical professionals and patients.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align on product goals, timelines, and design requirements.
  • Ensure UX design processes and outcomes comply with regulatory requirements, safety standards, and industry best practices.

About You: 

As we grow our operations, we are looking for people who share our passion for delivering quality hearing solutions to our customers. To add value to Cochlear in this role, you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, Interaction Design, Industrial Design, or related field with commensurate industry experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in user experience design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience leading and mentoring UX teams and managing cross-functional relationships.
  • Expertise in user research methodologies, usability testing, and human-centered design principles.
  • Strong proficiency with design tools such as Figma, FigJam, Maze, TheyDo, etc.
  • Experience creating wireframes, prototypes, and interactive mock-ups.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present and advocate for UX concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A strong portfolio that demonstrates successful design projects, particularly in healthcare or medical devices.
