Company Description

Founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, Qantas has grown to be Australia’s largest regional, domestic, and international airline. Qantas has a range of subsidiary businesses that support the overall operations of the Group. The Qantas Group’s main business is the transportation of customers and freight using two complementary airline brands — Qantas and Jetstar — operating regional, domestic, and international services.

Job Description

  • Shape and maintain Qantas’ Cloud architecture and capability.
  • Lead architectural governance, embedding standards and guardrails across domains.
  • Permanent, Full-time opportunity located Qantas Head Campus in Mascot

Technology is at the heart of how the Qantas Group delivers for our customers, people and shareholders. As we modernise, simplify and invest in the future, the right architectural foundations are critical to enabling safe, reliable and scalable solutions across the Group.

As a Domain Architect – Cloud, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping Qantas’ future‑state cloud platform landscape. Working horizontally across the enterprise, you’ll translate strategy into clear capability roadmaps, reference architectures and pragmatic design guardrails that enable teams to deliver at scale.

Acting as a trusted architectural leader, you’ll partner closely with Enterprise Architects, Solution Architects, engineers and senior technology leaders. You’ll influence how we modernise legacy platforms, accelerate cloud adoption, strengthen resilience and ensure technology investments align with enterprise‑wide standards, safety expectations and long‑term strategic outcomes. This is a hands‑on, high‑impact role where your thinking and judgement will directly shape how Qantas continues to evolve and innovate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bring 8+ years’ experience in Enterprise, Domain or Solution Architecture within large, regulated environments, with deep hands‑on expertise across major cloud platforms (AWS highly regarded), strong systems thinking across infrastructure, security and integration, and the ability to lead and influence outcomes without formal authority.
  • Shape and maintain Qantas’ target‑state cloud architecture, translating business strategy into clear capability roadmaps, standards and design guardrails.
  • Develop and promote reference architectures across cloud infrastructure, integration, identity, security, resilience and platform automation.
  • Lead architectural governance within the cloud domain, embedding decision frameworks and ensuring compliance with enterprise standards and safety obligations.
  • Engage early in initiative planning to define architectural options, trade‑offs, risks and costs, influencing investment and delivery decisions.
  • Provide end‑to‑end architectural oversight across major programs, ensuring solutions align to endorsed architecture and deliver measurable outcomes.
  • Drive technology modernisation and rationalisation, reducing duplication, retiring legacy platforms and uplifting resilience and sustainability.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and cloud innovations, supporting proofs of concept and structured experimentation.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear, practical guidance for executives, stakeholders and delivery teams.
  • Identify and mitigate systemic risks across cyber, resilience, safety and obsolescence within cloud designs, embedding controls into architectural outcomes.
