The Opportunity:

This opportunity as an Editorial Lead is ideal for someone who thrives on transforming complex ideas into clear, compelling content, and who understands the power of great writing in driving strategic outcomes.
 

You might be a seasoned proposal writer, communications specialist, or an editor who’s ready to step into a role where your influence goes beyond words on a page. You enjoy working collaboratively, guiding others, and bringing structure and consistency to high-stakes documents. You're comfortable navigating competing priorities and bring a calm, constructive presence to fast-paced bid environments.

If you’re passionate about elevating the quality of written content, empowering others to communicate more effectively, and embedding best practices that make a lasting impact, this role offers the perfect platform to do so.

This is a permanent full-time position and can be based in either Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney or Brisbane.

The successful candidate must be able to hold an AGSVA security clearance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the authoring of proposal content that is concise, persuasive and aligned to win themes.
  • Review and edit complex technical and strategic content to ensure tone, clarity, structure and consistency across proposals.
  • Collaborate with key contributors across the business (including internal and subcontracted authors) to embed a cohesive voice across all submissions.
  • Drive content development best practices
  • Identify and address content gaps, helping build sustainable proposal capability within the team.
  • Partner with Proposal Managers to align messaging with broader business development strategy.

Required Qualifications, Experience & Skills:

  • A strong background in proposal writing, editing or strategic communications, ideally within Defence or other complex industries.
  • Experience with ASDEFCON or major government tenders.
  • Ability to distil technical or strategic information into sharp, structured and on-message bid content.
  • Excellent editing skills to ensure documents exhibit one voice across multiple contributors.
  • Skilled at coaching others to lift writing quality and own their content.
  • Strong understanding of Defence sector language, tone and win strategies.
  • Autonomous, resilient and confident in managing competing deadlines across multiple stakeholders.
  • Tenacity to push for excellence and consistency under time pressure.
