The primary role of Engineering function within Product Development team is to create specifications and designs for new products or improvements and enhancements to existing products. The Mechanical Engineer position is responsible for delivering high-quality mechanical design solutions for medical devices and related systems. To do so, requires understanding of customer needs, collaboration with other engineering functions, and alignment with stakeholders matching function with end product needs.

  • You collaborate with peers to support the project team to efficiently define solutions that deliver the greatest value for ResMed and meet our user’s needs. 

  • You communicate proactively with peers and stakeholders to report on individual progress and risks, acting with a solutions mindset. 

  • You take ownership for your own technical growth and actively work to build your skills and competency. 

  • You work within the regulated medical device environment and deliver with the expected quality outcomes. 

  • You seek to understand ResMed engineering best practices and processes and how they are applied to the delivery of your work.

Technical competency 

  • Logical and methodical, utilises necessary tools and actively seeks input/guidance to ensure their work is robust and well thought through. Participates in a team to solve larger engineering problems.  

  • With guidance, resolves discipline design tasks at component and sub-system level. Applies attention to detail, especially in DFM and tolerancing. Able to collect and analyse data to make technical decisions 

  • Communicates technical information clearly to peers, senior team members, and suppliers in written, verbal, and graphical mediums 

  • Builds rational technical arguments and considers the impact of their design decisions on other disciplines.  Learns from technical failure and applies knowledge to new situations 

Leadership 

  • Drives work tasks to completion 

  • Takes responsibility for their actions, and acknowledges their own mistakes & effectively incorporates feedback from team 

  • Speaks up when sees a problem & offers constructive, appropriate feedback 

  • Questions teams decisions if they disagree & may propose other solutions without being dogmatic 

Innovation 

  • Figures things out independently, but gets help when needed 

  • Learns from mistakes 

  • Receptive to constructive feedback, actively building into development plan

Position Specific Skills 

  • Knowledge of CAD and simulation tools used in mechanical engineering product development. 

  • Application of engineering principles and processes to solve engineering problems within product development 

 

Let’s talk about Qualifications and Experience 

 

Required: 

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent. 

 

Preferred: 

  • Discipline specific engineering experience
