The Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled Network and Communications Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. In this role, you will apply your advanced technical expertise to design, implement, and support complex network and communication systems across multi-disciplinary programs. You will work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to resolve challenging technical issues and deliver secure, reliable, and optimisd network solutions.
Responsibilities
- Design, configure, and maintain secure LAN, WAN, wireless, and secure network architectures.
- Develop detailed network architecture diagrams, system specifications, and technical documentation.
- Perform network performance analysis, capacity planning, and optimization.
- Implement and manage network security measures including firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS, and encryption protocols.
- Collaborate with software, systems, and cybersecurity teams to ensure integrated and compliant solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex network and communication issues independently.
- Lead test plan development and execution; analyze results and recommend improvements.
- Support integration of communication systems with other subsystems ensuring interoperability.
- Design and support Linux-based operating systems environments.
- Apply electronics and PCB design knowledge to support hardware integration.
- Design, analyze, and operate RF systems ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Participate in risk assessments and propose mitigation strategies.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and support certification activities.
Experience/Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to independently design, deploy, and sustain complex network and communications systems, owning technical decisions and delivery
- Strong knowledge of network protocols, communication standards, and network security principles.
- Experience with network design and management tools (Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto, etc.).
- Proficiency in Linux OS and scripting languages (Python, Bash, C#).
- Understanding of electronics and hardware development.
- Experience with RF operations and antenna systems.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity frameworks and compliance standards.
Desirable
- Experience in defense or aerospace industries, especially unmanned systems or mission-critical communications.
- Knowledge of Australian defense networking environments (MPE, DSE, DPE) and tactical communications (TCN, BTN).
- Basic PCBA design and manufacturing experience.
- Experience with satellite communications and tactical radio networks.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be Australian Citizens to meet defence security requirements
- Able to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance
- You may require a Foreign Work Authorisation (FWA) in order to perform this role. This is not a requirement set or determined by Boeing but by the Department of Defence under laws issued in 2024. Please refer to the Department of Defence website to understand these requirements.
