As an Engineering Manager at Tyro, you will sit within Tyro's Technology department and lead multiple engineering teams responsible for large portions of our architecture and business-critical systems. The primary purpose of the role is to drive technical excellence, empower high-performing teams, and deliver sustainable business outcomes through strategic leadership and deep technical understanding.
What you'll do:Define the mission, vision, and long-term roadmap for engineering teams aligned with Tyro's business strategy.
Lead multiple complex initiatives with cross-organisational dependencies and significant business impact.
Balance delivery demands with innovation, technical quality, and sustainable system evolution.
Coach and mentor engineers and managers to develop future technical and people leaders.
Drive architectural consistency, scalability, and reliability across systems.
Identify, assess, and mitigate delivery and technical risks; escalate appropriately with data.
Champion automation, simplification, and the reduction of technical debt.
Set measurable goals for system reliability, customer experience, and operational health.
Foster a culture of inclusion, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Maintain enough hands-on technical involvement to guide architectural and design decisions credibly.
Extensive experience leading multiple engineering teams or managing managers in a technology organisation.
Proven ability to deliver complex, scalable software systems and drive architectural strategy.
Strong technical background in software engineering, system design, or infrastructure.
Demonstrated success mentoring and developing engineering leaders and fostering team growth.
Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, with a focus on alignment and transparency.
Track record of balancing execution speed with long-term sustainability and technical excellence.
Experience building inclusive, high-performing teams that thrive in fast-paced environments.
Teams consistently meet or exceed delivery goals for complex, cross-team initiatives.
Demonstrated improvements in system reliability, scalability, and technical quality.
Positive team engagement and retention metrics; evidence of strong leadership and mentorship.
Effective prioritisation and risk management, resulting in predictable delivery outcomes.
Demonstrated progress in reducing technical debt and simplifying system architecture.
Alignment of team goals with business objectives and measurable customer impact.
Strong collaboration and communication with other engineering, product, and business leaders.
