The Role

Our high-performing New South Wales environmental team is growing with a wide range of interesting projects and sustainable design. We are a large multidisciplinary company with iconic projects across renewables, environmental studies, dam & hydropower, solar power projects, energy transition and in-land rail.

Due to continued business growth and the award of new projects we are seeking an Experienced Environmental Planner with a minimum 5+ years’ experience. You will assist in delivering complex environmental planning and assessment projects with key clients across New South Wales.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop environmental impact assessments, approval applications and other studies and management plans
  • Provide input, advice and expertise on environmental and planning matters as part of SMEC's infrastructure planning and design project teams
  • Develop technical solutions to achieve improved environmental and sustainability outcomes on projects for internal and external clients
  • Contribute to proposals and bids for securing new and ongoing work
  • Apply relevant Commonwealth, State and Local legislation, policies, and guidelines
  • Produce high quality professional reports and deliverables
  • Complete technical project work, desk based and field work
  • Post-approval environmental management plan development and implementation oversight
  • Provide environmental advice
  • Review, prepare and implement Environmental Management Plans and deliver environmental monitoring programs

Ideal applicants will have/be:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science/Planning or similar
  • 5+ years' experience within a similar role
  • Experience in gaining environment approvals and statutory approvals for projects in New South Wales
  • Experience working within a consultancy environment (preferred)
  • Proven project management and client relationship management capability
  • Excellent communication skills, verbally and written
  • Well-developed report writing skills
  • Experience working with government clients preferred
