The Role
SMEC is seeking an Experienced Electrical Engineer to join our rail team in North Sydney. The successful candidate will design and deliver low-voltage, high-voltage, earthing, and bonding engineering components for a range of rail projects at both local and national levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and delivery of low-voltage, high-voltage, earthing, and bonding engineering services for various rail projects
- Production of engineering drawings, reports, specifications, and tender packages from preliminary design through to construction
- Conduct feasibility studies, load calculations, and site inspections
- Review electrical designs to ensure analysis and design tasks meet appropriate technical standards and the requirements of the client and SMEC
- Prepare engineering reports and supporting tender proposals
- Proactively collaborate with team members, contributors, and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness, and coordination of project deliverables
About You
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent discipline
- 5+ years of industry experience
- Experience preparing detailed electrical design documentation across rail and other transport infrastructure projects
- Design experience in substation protection, SCADA, and communications (desirable)
- Previous experience working within a TAO-authorised design consultancy
- Experience using AutoCAD, Revit, PowerCAD, AGI32, DIALux, and CDEGS software
- Strong understanding of relevant AMB requirements, Australian codes and standards, as well as Safety Assurance and Systems Engineering processes
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering organisation
- Accountability for project delivery and budget management
