We are recruiting Platform Engineers at all levels, across many technology stacks!

What is Platform Engineering @ CommBank

Platform Engineers architect, design, run, and evolve our Platforms – the core technology that our people use to deliver value to our customers.

Platform Engineers work hard so that our Platforms are loved by their users – our Product Engineers – because they help them get more done, spend less time on undifferentiated heavy lifting, and more time focusing on delivering great products to our customers.

Platform Engineers take an ‘automate first’ approach, ensuring that deployments and operations are performed via pipelines, and using Infrastructure as Code. Wherever possible, we encourage our people to write code that does the work, and to spend dedicated time improving the flow of work.

What levels of role are you recruiting for?

We are currently recruiting for engineers, senior engineers, staff engineers, principal engineers, and chief engineers, as well as all levels of engineering managers.

What skills do Platform Engineers have, and what Technology will I be working on?

Platform Engineers have strong infrastructure and systems knowledge combined with proficiency in modern DevOps practices, automation, and writing code to automate operations.

This is not an exhaustive list of technologies, so if you’re unsure, please apply.

The Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement the technology stack and integration using infrastructure as code principles

  • Troubleshoot and resolve stability issues to increase system resilience and stability

  • Focus on automating deployments, testing, and all kinds of toil

  • Listen to the users of the platform and iteratively evolve the platform to deliver even better experiences

  • Share your knowledge, and create documentation that is easy to read and understand

  • Mentor and guide junior engineers on the team

  • Participate in our overall Engineering community – learning from and teaching others

Qualifications and experience:

  • Experience performing platform engineering, software engineering, or systems engineering, or another related discipline – depending on the level of role

  • Cloud certifications in AWS or Azure are useful, but not required (we will help you get certified if you want)

  • Deep knowledge of the technology concepts and stack of one of our platforms

  • Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and CI/CD pipelines

  • Scripting and programming skills, and the desire to learn new programming languages
