Engineering Manager - Data

The role / impact

In this role, you will lead the engineering team responsible for our data streaming solution, guiding the people who design, build, and operate this critical platform. You will focus on driving delivery practices that meet high standards, improving stability, and ensuring we design scalable solutions that support both internal business users and external customers.

Beyond the technical delivery, you will build effective teams by coaching and developing engineers, ensuring they have the capability and support to deliver outcomes. You will foster a collaborative culture, role-model strong engineering behaviours, and oversee the operational performance of the streaming solution to ensure reliability and resilience.

You will join a team that values knowledge sharing, regularly provides constructive feedback, and works closely with product and security teams to manage dependencies and solve real customer problems.

The team is currently working on

• Designing, building, and operating a robust data streaming solution to support real-time data processing needs.

• Improving the operational performance and reliability of data products by monitoring stability and meeting Service Level Objectives (SLOs).

• Shaping architectural design decisions and consulting with principal engineers to ensure cohesive patterns across the platform.

• Advancing DataOps tools and Agile practices to accelerate the delivery of high-quality data products.

Here are some of the things we are looking for

• Previous people leadership experience managing data specialist teams and proven track record at building and maintaining good team culture.

• You bring broad experience and understand technical detail, but your strength lies in establishing and driving delivery and operational discipline, focusing on creating processes and ensuring they are implemented.

• A deep understanding of modern data product development lifecycles and real-time streaming technologies is essential for this role.

• You possess the ability to coach and mentor engineers, offering the right feedback to support their growth and mastery.

• Managing incident response and ensuring operational reliability through established Service Level Objectives (SLOs) is something you approach with confidence.

• You excel at stakeholder engagement, building collaborative relationships to align on vision and manage cross-team dependencies.

• You have a growth mindset and high emotional intelligence, allowing you to navigate conflict and empower your team to make decentralised decisions.
