IT Field Engineer NSW (Metro & Regional Travel)

Location: NSW (Sydney Metro + Regional NSW)
Employment Type: Full-time
Travel Requirement: Regular travel across metropolitan Sydney and regional NSW, including occasional overnight stays.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and customer‑focused - IT Field Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will conduct IT Network Site Audits, provide onsite technical support, and perform installation, and troubleshooting of network and IT systems across multiple locations in NSW.

You will work independently in the field, delivering high‑quality service and representing our organisation with professionalism. A strong commitment to travel is essential, as the role includes both metropolitan and regional site visits.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct comprehensive audits of IT Network infrastructure across metropolitan and regional client sites.
  • Assessing network equipment and cabling in client server rooms, UPS units.
  • Document asset inventory including switches, access points, and WAPS.
  • Compliance with organisational standards, policies, and security requirements.
  • Produce clear, structured audit reports and implementation reports with photos and diagrams utilising auditing software tool.
  • Work with internal networks team on commencement and during the audit and implementation phases to complete IT audits and technology upgrades.

Experience in Networks, Network Equipment & Site Audits

Network Experience

  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing and switching principles.
  • Hands‑on experience configuring and troubleshooting:
    • Managed switches (Layer 2/Layer 3)
    • Routers and firewalls
    • Wireless access points and controllers
    • VPN technologies (SSL/IPSec)
  • Ability to diagnose LAN/WAN connectivity issues.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring and packet analysis tools.

Network Equipment

  • Experience installing:
    • Cisco, HPE/Aruba or similar network hardware
    • Networking cable, patch panels and racks
  • Skilled in tidy, standard-aligned rack layouts and cable management.

Commitment to Travel

  • Required to travel regularly across metropolitan and regional NSW.
  • Comfortable with frequent site visits, varied schedules and occasional overnight stays.
  • Demonstrates reliability and flexibility with daily schedule.
  • Able to travel effectively and manage time according to daily schedule.

Represents the organisation professionally while working independently in the field.

What You’ll Bring:

To be successful in this role you will ideally have had experience in a similar role, with a wide range of general IT skills. You will demonstrate excellent problem solving and communication skills. You’ll need to be a self-starter, with good organisation skills and attention to detail. You should generally bring.

  • Experience conducting IT Site Audits, including documenting hardware, network equipment, cabling, Wi‑Fi and server room environments.
  • Experience with installations of UPS systems and maintenance.
  • Strong technical capability in installing and decommissioning switches, routers and wireless access points.
  • Solid networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, switching) with proven troubleshooting skills across LAN/WAN environments.
  • Hands‑on experience with Cisco, HPE/Aruba and similar network hardware.
  • Ability to work independently across multiple metro and regional sites, with excellent time‑management and initiative.
  • Required to travel frequently across NSW, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to produce clear reports and documentation.
  • Relevant qualifications, including a Bachelor’s degree in IT (or related field) and networking certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or equivalent.
