About this role

Stake is looking for a commercially minded, technically strong and highly collaborative Financial Controller to uplift the maturity of financial control and risk management across the Finance team. As a senior member of the function, you’ll build scalable processes, drive efficiency and support customer-centric outcomes while also shaping and accelerating Stake’s treasury capability.

You will be joining our high-performing Finance team who enables and supports our Australia, New Zealand, India and Brazil operations during an exciting hyper-growth phase. Opportunity to work in a truly customer-centric environment where innovative and seamless products and services are evolving the way Australians and Kiwis invest.

Further responsibilities include:

  • Oversee day-to-day corporate finance activities, ensuring financial control is executed accurately, efficiently and in a scalable way that supports a smooth stakeholder experience. Own the month-end close process and prepare financial statements for the group, including all legal entities, in line with relevant financial reporting frameworks. Manage the annual financial statement audit and liaise with external auditors and advisors to achieve a clean, timely sign-off.
  • Lead regulatory compliance and reporting from a financial perspective, ensuring timely and accurate submissions under all relevant licences and regulations, including AFSL and FCA
  • Act as a trusted partner to operational and product teams to embed commercial control ownership and ensure finance considerations are integrated into new or redesigned processes and product requirements
  • Manage the treasury function in a complex financial environment and heavily contribute to the future build and simplification of customer and company cash flows
  • Ensure compliance with all tax regulations and oversee the preparation and filing of tax returns and lodgements
  • Establish and maintain internal controls and documentation that are fit for Stake’s maturity and safeguard company assets while supporting regulatory compliance
  • Lead, coach and develop a team of accountants, setting objectives, managing performance and ensuring high-quality outputs
A bit about you
  • Qualified accountant (CA/CPA or equivalent)
  • Significant technical accounting experience (8+ years), including hands-on ownership of statutory accounts and financial reporting
  • Background in financial services or fintech, ideally with exposure to AFSL regulation and complex treasury environments
  • Experience articulating finance requirements and ensuring they’re factored into new products is highly desirable, particularly in areas shaping customer cashflow journeys
  • Proven experience managing audits and working with external auditors to deliver statutory accounts
  • Knowledge of tax compliance (desirable)
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills with the ability to influence senior leaders
  • A practical mindset for process improvement and automation, backed by a track record of implementing scalable processes

At Stake, we’re more interested in your attitude than your resume. If you believe this is a role you want to jump into, please apply and let us know why in your cover letter!
