About this role 

We are seeking a motivated Financial Crime Analyst to join our AML Operations team. In this role, you will be responsible for reviewing transactional activity, investigating alerts, completing Enhanced Customer Due Diligence (ECDD) where required, and ensuring compliance with our  AML/CTF obligations and internal policies. You will use strong analytical and investigative skills to identify potential money laundering, terrorism financing, or other financial crime risks across a diverse customer base. Working closely with the Team Lead and Compliance, you will play an important role in supporting the organisation’s efforts to detect and prevent financial crime.

Investigations:

  • Review and action alerts generated by AML/CTF transaction monitoring systems within required SLAs, analysing customer behaviour and transaction patterns for potential suspicious activity.
  • Conduct ECDD reviews on higher-risk customers in line with AUSTRAC and internal policy requirements.
  • Conduct detailed research using internal databases and external sources to determine the legitimacy and purpose of transactions.
  • Capture and document your due diligence, findings, and decision rationale within the relevant alert and case management systems.
  • Escalate suspicious matters to the Team Lead, providing detailed summaries & supporting evidence
  • Identify potential trends or typologies of money laundering and recommend actions or controls to address them.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate records in transaction monitoring and case management systems.
  • Maintain accurate case files and assist with data analysis for ongoing risk assessments or remediation tasks.

Compliance & Risk Adherence

  • Ensure all daily activities comply with relevant Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations, including local laws and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate and organised records of all KYC reviews, investigations, and escalations.
  • Proactively identify and report any potential compliance breaches or operational risks to the Management.

Collaboration & Efficiency

  • Work closely with the Compliance and Operations teams to resolve AML-related queries and support continuous process improvement.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in AML regulations, red flags, and emerging financial crime threats.
  • Participate in ongoing training programs and AML knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Contribute to the optimisation of operational workflows and processes within the FinCrime team to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
A bit about you
  • 2–3 years of experience in AML or financial crime investigations.
  • Previous hands-on experience with transaction monitoring and transaction monitoring software
  • Certification in Anti-Money Laundering (CAMS), Certified Financial Crime Specialist (CFCS), or Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), desired.
  • In-depth knowledge of Customer Identification: Know Your Customer (KYC & KYB), desired.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for drafting concise reports and summaries.
