Your future team
We are a dedicated team of data engineers and FinOps analysts within the Cloud FinOps organisation, which operates under the Core Engineering department.
Our mission is to drive cost efficiency to sustain Atlassian's growth. We focus on bringing relevant data and compelling insights, helping teams make informed decisions and sustain their unit economics.
As a FinOps Engineer, reporting to Senior Engineering Manager - FinOps Insight, you will play an important role in our cost efficiency strategy across Atlassian, using our data insights and your cloud engineering experience to foster a culture of cost efficiency throughout the company.
It's your job to ensure our teams are well-informed about their costs, aware of opportunities for efficiency, and take direct action to improve efficiency of our cloud spend.
What You'll Do

  • Contribute to insights on cost and efficiency opportunities through reports and dashboards
  • Partnering with engineering and finance teams to improve efficiency of our cloud spend
  • Contribute to rate optimisation by exploring and executing viable commitments with cloud vendors
  • Contribute to usage optimisation through insights and driving adoption of recommendations
  • Conduct trainings to guide teams on best practice for cost management
  • Leverage cloud engineering knowledge to provide data-driven perspective
  • Optimise queries and data models, and automate workflow to scale the deliver of optimisation insights
  • Contribute to experimentation and adoption of ML/AI-driven intelligence into our processes
  • Contribute to cost efficiency discussions with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Get exposure, impact and visibility across Atlassian engineering teams and senior execs


Your background

  • 2+ years of technical experience as a cloud engineer with background in data analytics or business financial operations
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
  • Proficient in writing performant queries using SQL or Python
  • Enjoy working in fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environment with a focus on high-impact outcome


It's great but not required if you have

  • A background in FinOps and cloud financial management
  • Technical or management experience with AWS or other Cloud vendors
  • Experience with data platform and tooling (Spark, Databricks, etc)
  • An interest or knowledge in data visualisation practices
