Join Us at a Defining Moment

At Intelligen, we’re building something different. Over the past three years, we’ve evolved from a bold startup to a trusted partner for some of Australia’s most complex data transformations. We’ve helped organizations move from legacy to modern platforms, embedded governance into decision-making, and brought AI into the hands of the business, responsibly and at speed.

But we’re just getting started. As we scale into our next phase of growth, we’re looking for experienced technology professionals who don’t just want to deliver great solutions – but want to help shape the future of data and AI capability across Australia & the Asia-Pacific region.

We’re looking for an experienced GCP Platform Engineer to join our team and support the delivery of secure, governed and scalable Google Cloud environments for our clients.

About the Role

This is a hands-on Google Cloud engineering role focused on GCP administration, access control, security and governance.

You’ll be responsible for establishing and managing the environments, permissions, policies and controls that allow data teams to work securely and effectively within Google Cloud.

While you’ll work closely with data engineers and data platform teams, this isn’t a traditional Data Engineer role. Your focus will be on the environment in which those teams operate, establishing the rules, access models, security controls and configuration standards that underpin a well-governed data platform.

A key part of the role is being able to bring practical GCP experience to the table. We’re looking for someone who can confidently diagnose issues, guide engineers through configuration challenges and recommend the right approach rather than needing to learn the fundamentals on the job.

You’ll initially support a major digital health client operating within a complex Google Cloud and data environment, with opportunities to contribute across Intelligen’s broader cloud, data and AI portfolio.

What You'll Do

  • Design and implement GCP access-control and governance frameworks, including Google IAM, Google Groups, roles and permissions.
  • Establish and administer role-based access control (RBAC) across Google Cloud and BigQuery environments.
  • Configure BigQuery dataset permissions, authorised views and row- and column-level access controls.
  • Implement BigQuery policy tags, masking and other sensitive-data controls to support secure handling of sensitive information.
  • Design and maintain Google Group, IAM and grant structures that support scalable, least-privilege access.
  • Review and remediate service accounts, static credentials and inappropriate or excessive permissions.
  • Configure and manage GCP environments and help establish clear access and deployment patterns across environments.
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) approaches for cloud configuration and access controls, ideally using Terraform.
  • Support Terraform and dbt-based deployment and access-control patterns where required.
  • Troubleshoot GCP configuration, permissions and access issues and confidently guide client engineers through their resolution.
  • Support the migration of scheduled queries, reporting dependencies and data access patterns into appropriately governed models.
  • Work closely with data engineers, platform engineers and client stakeholders to implement changes requiring business or technical context.
  • Produce implementation evidence, technical documentation, runbooks and handover materials.
  • Support controlled production releases and ensure changes are implemented safely and consistently.

Requirements

You’ll bring strong, practical Google Cloud experience and be comfortable taking ownership of cloud configuration and access-management challenges.

Must-haves include:

  • 5+ years’ experience in cloud engineering, cloud platform administration, data engineering or a closely related technical role.
  • Strong hands-on experience working within Google Cloud Platform (GCP) environments.
  • Demonstrated experience administering GCP accounts, environments, permissions and roles.
  • Strong knowledge of Google IAM, Google Groups and role-based access control (RBAC).
  • Practical experience configuring permissions and access within BigQuery.
  • Experience implementing policy tags, masking and sensitive-data controls within Google Cloud.
  • Understanding of least-privilege principles and experience managing service accounts, credentials and access permissions.
  • Strong troubleshooting capability – you can diagnose configuration and permission issues and confidently guide others through resolving them.
  • Ability to work directly with engineers and stakeholders, communicate technical concepts clearly and provide practical guidance based on previous experience.

It would be great if you also bring:

  • Experience with Terraform or another Infrastructure as Code / configuration-as-code technology. Terraform experience is preferred, but strong experience with comparable tooling is also valuable.
  • Experience with dbt, including grants, permissions and environment-specific deployment patterns.
  • A background in data engineering, analytics engineering or modern data platforms.
  • Experience with platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake or other modern cloud data technologies.
  • Experience tracing and migrating scheduled queries, reporting dependencies and downstream data consumers.
  • Familiarity with Sigma access models and Google Sheets integrations.
  • Experience across multiple cloud environments, particularly AWS or Azure in addition to GCP.
  • Experience working in consulting, client-facing or complex enterprise delivery environments.

Formal GCP certifications are welcome but not required. For this role, demonstrated hands-on experience and the ability to confidently apply that knowledge are more important.
