Halter is flipping the livestock world on its head. Our collars and software let farmers move and manage animals with a swipe of their phone - no bikes, no fences, no stress. We’re scaling fast across NZ, Aus, and the US, and the stakes keep getting higher.

Halter’s growth depends on more than just great technology though.  It hinges on sharp strategy that turns ambition into action. As Head of Commercial Strategy, you’ll sit at the heart of how we scale.  Think pricing that powers growth, incentives that fire up sales, and frameworks that help us win new markets before competitors even see them coming.

You’ll be partnering directly with Halter’s leadership team to define where we play and how we win, and then make sure those strategies stick in the real world. This is your chance to shape the future of Halter, and leave your fingerprints on every major commercial decision we make.

This role is a rare mix of high‑level thinking and sleeves‑rolled‑up execution. If you love being dropped into gnarly, ambiguous problems and coming out with a plan everyone rallies behind, read on.

What your day could look like

  • Lead mission critical cross-functional projects. Own chunky bets like pricing and packaging, sales-incentive designs, partnership strategies, and other growth levers
  • Model what matters.  Build out CAC calculators, size new opportunities, and pressure-test decisions with sharp, sensible financial models.
  • Tell the story.  Craft decks, memos, or quick Slack threads that make complex ideas obvious and actionable for execs, investors, and frontline teams.
  • Turn insight into action.  Pull data from RevOps, anecdotes from Sales, and ideas from Product, then stitch them into strategies the company can actually run with
  • Drive execution. Roll out playbooks, clear roadblocks, and measure the win once the dust settles.
  • Scout the future. Track market shifts, competitors, and farmer needs to keep Halter two steps ahead.

You’ll crush this gig if you…

  • Operate with dynamic range – happy dreaming up multi‑year market plays, then diving into a messy spreadsheet or a 10‑slide fire‑drill before lunch.
  • Model fast and beautifully – Excel or Sheets is second nature. Your files are tidy, editable, and give clear answers without a 20‑minute tour.
  • Tell a tight story – whether it’s a one‑pager, a Loom, or a board pack, you make the complex feel simple and the path forward feel inevitable.
  • Own it, end‑to‑end – set priorities, run the list, make crisp calls, and keep momentum. No waiting for perfect clarity.
  • Influence without ego – build trust quickly across Sales, Marketing, Finance, Product, and Ops. People loop you in early because you make their lives easier.
  • Think big, start small – spot long‑term angles but aren’t afraid to test with a scrappy v1 today.
  • Thrive in speed and ambiguity – startups, consulting, high‑growth SaaS, agtech, hardware – wherever you’ve been, you got sh*t done with half the info.
  • Bonus points
  • Top‑tier strategy consulting or high‑impact internal strategy team experience.
  • Exposure to agtech, SaaS, or hardware businesses.
  • Track record of shipping projects that out‑live you.

You’re a strategist who actually gets stuff done. You can crack a messy problem, spin up the model that shows the answer, and then roll up your sleeves to make it happen.

Ambiguity won’t stall you either.  You think clearly, see the levers that drive growth, and aren’t afraid to pull them and cut through noise fast. Your models are sharp, tidy, and built to drive decisions, not just sit pretty.  Not only that, but you tell a tight story too. Whether it’s a deck, a one-pager, or a quick Slack thread, people walk away knowing exactly what to do next.

And finally - you’ve got range. One day you’re mapping a multi-year market play, the next you’re in a spreadsheet or chasing down an owner to keep a project moving. You stay calm in the chaos, make crisp calls, and don’t wait around for perfect clarity. People trust you because you make their lives easier, not harder, and are an absolute champion of cross collaborative working.

Whether it’s big picture, or small details, you can flex both. You’re scrappy when you need to be, decisive when it counts, and always leave behind work that outlives you.
