As the Head of Credit Risk at Tyro, you will report to the Chief Risk Officer and be a senior member of the Tyro Risk Management team. You'll be accountable for Tyro's credit risk management framework across current and future lending products.
Leading a high-performing team, the role is responsible for setting credit policies, underwriting standards, escalated credit decisioning, and oversight of portfolio quality, collections and provisioning. You'll partner with Product on the design and launch of new credit offerings such as secured business lending and credit cards. It provides high-quality analysis and reporting to the CRO, Board Risk Committee and other senior forums, ensuring Tyro's credit risk management is prudent, compliant with APS 220, and aligned to strategic objectives.
What you'll do:Lead Tyro’s credit risk policies, risk assessment, underwriting standards, provisioning and portfolio reporting, ensuring alignment with prudential and regulatory requirements.
Ensure compliance with APS 220 Credit Risk Management standards and engage effectively with APRA and other regulators where required.
Undertake escalated loan decisioning within delegated authorities, ensuring adherence to policy and sound judgement.
Provide assurance over collections strategies, recovery activities and third-party providers, ensuring effective oversight of arrears and write-offs.
Deliver high-quality, insightful reporting and analysis to senior stakeholders including CRO, BRC and Lending Steering Forum.
Evaluate the credit quality of the loan portfolio and ensure compliance with Tyro’s Lending Credit Risk Policy and procedures.
Lead, coach and develop the credit risk team, building technical capability, strong judgement and succession readiness.
Partner effectively with Product, Growth and Finance to ensure credit risk is well understood and managed across Tyro, including support for the development and risk assessment of new products.
Be an active member of the Risk Management Leadership Team, role modelling positive risk behaviours and contributing to a strong risk culture.
At least 10 years’ experience in financial services, with a minimum of 5 years in a senior credit risk leadership role. Experience in fintech, non-bank lenders or challenger banks desirable.
Strong understanding of SME credit risk products, including unsecured and secured business lending, business credit cards, and emerging product types.
Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, insightful reporting and present effectively to C-suite and Board-level stakeholders.
Solid credit fundamentals and proven experience in a commercial lending environment.
Ability to perform in-depth analysis of financial statements, cash flow forecasts, business models, and sector dynamics to assess repayment capacity and overall creditworthiness.
Demonstrated experience partnering with Product teams on the design, development and risk assessment of new credit products, including secured lending and credit cards.
Strong investigative, analytical and influencing skills, including experience in stress testing, scenario analysis and portfolio modelling to assess resilience under varying economic conditions.
Highly organised with the ability to meet deadlines.
Advanced MS Office skills, particularly MS Excel.
