We have an exciting opportunity to join our Technology team in Australia and are currently looking for a Head of Data Engineering to join the team. 

As the Head of Data Engineering at VGW, you will lead the strategy to deliver high-quality, reliable data, drive innovation, and build a culture that empowers data-driven decisions across the organisation.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Define and execute VGW’s data engineering strategy, aligning with company objectives to deliver high-quality, reliable data that drives key business decisions.
  • Lead the data engineering team by setting technical standards, fostering a culture of innovation, and mentoring team members for growth and success.
  • Shape and oversee the development of data architecture, governance policies, and technical frameworks, ensuring compliance with data security and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive the adoption of data engineering best practices, policies, and controls across the organisation to maintain consistency and continuous improvement.

What you will bring to the role:

  • Proven experience leading and scaling data engineering teams, fostering a high-performance culture, and driving strategic initiatives to enhance data capabilities.
  • Deep expertise in architecting and optimising cloud-based data platforms, including data governance, security best practices, and cost management.
  • Strong ability to design and implement scalable data architectures, leveraging modern data engineering principles such as data mesh, event-driven processing, and real-time data streaming.
  • Advanced data engineering and analytics expertise, with hands-on experience in ETL/ELT pipelines, distributed computing, and automation of data workflows.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to shape and execute a data roadmap, balancing innovation with operational excellence in data quality, reliability, and governance.
  • A passion for fostering cross-functional collaboration, driving knowledge sharing, and enabling data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
